Tribes Ascend

I used to play Tribes Ascend... It was fun for a while, but eventually I grew tired of it for the same reason I despise all F2P games. Gotta pay to win.

Ya the free to play aspect sucks, but hey what can you do they have a monopoly on any game even remotely close to that. Its so much fun , so different from so many of the run of the mill games these days. I figured I would just dump $30 into it, and was careful about researching any weapon before I bought so I did not waste XP on less than useful classes / weapons.

I admit, it is fun. But I can't bring myself to dump money into F2P. I did it on Brawl Busters and got burned. Spent more on it than I normally would just buying a game outright, and ended up with crap. I'm afraid if I put money in Tribes or any other F2P they'll just release more DLC that you'll have to buy to remain competitive. So I'm just not going down that road. I understand they see it as a way to put a game on the market for free and still make money at it, but I see it as nickel-and-diming players while ruining gameplay and balance.

I agree the F2P thing has just been bust in my mind, my brother got me briefly into Dofus and it was just a wash, you had to pump money into move up and thats just bogus. I don't know how its going to work out for OUYA but I'm really hoping its like back in the PS1 days of free demo, pay for the game. Most of the games i bought back then where do to the demo disc and picking out the winners.

I still haven't been able to pry myself from Pandora. My PS3 got the YLOD last week and I lost all my Borderlands 2 data. STILL started a new character after getting another console and jumped right back in from the beginning. I would hope with Dead Space 3 and the new God of War, I might be tempted to put it down. All signs point to "no".

It's a terrible addiction.
