    Default The AUDIOPHILES

I wanted to have your opinion about the characteristics of the so-called Audiophiles...We know that those with special interest in the high-fidelity music and who invest a lot in collection and listening to old,new music are usually called audiophiles.

Literally it means someone who likes(-phile) music(audio)

They have some common habits such as devoting so much time on tweaking the gear and paying so much for the accessories as well.

They seem to like analog music for sure and hate the digital-although there are a significant number of pro-digital audiophiles nowadays-, but in general they hate BOSE more than digital music..lol

The music industry seems to rely on their opinion too much on the magazines, review websites,etc...

However,I do believe that music is something subjective and if someone loves the digital music, they should enjoy it...If somebody loves the sound of BOSE or any other equipment, bashing them is not the right thing..

Again, why is it that we should conform or accept the standards that are created by the audiophiles...Isnt the music that is heard by each individual unique to them?

    Cheers!!

Absolutely Torero. Music is a very personal choice and no one can set absolutes about it. But you know how human nature is. Some people just have to try to be superior to everyone else, or convert everyone to their way of thinking.

Is someone forcing you to conform? Why are you even concerned about this? Maybe I just don't understand the message you're trying to convey.

What standards are you talking about? Can we have some links to these "standards", or are these the standards that exist in your mind?

That was exactly my point..Unique choices that we have...

On the other hand, anyone can benefit from the broad knowledge of an audiophile when it comes to equipment or collection..

But i believe that the choices should be respected...Thats all..

i never owned a BOSE equipment in my life other than a set of headphones...They seem to do well...I enjoy listening to music on my ipod with them..

I also own POLK speakers and ROTEL gear and I love them....

Thumbs down Sarcasm for a lame thread.

I hate this place because of all the disrespect because of people's gear choices.

A cable thread will give you a bigger flame as this one won't get started..

You have made up your mind what you like or dislike, that's all that should matter. Why do you even care what someone else does or says?

Agreed. I'm not sure why it became so lame to own cheap gear or stuff that isn't considered high-end. It's not like anyone here walked into a 5K CDP without owning 50 POS CDP's previously. The attitude towards ownership sucks and ragging on folks for just starting out is lame.

Thank you Mark, I totally agree. You are about the only longtime member on here that doesn't sneer at newbies working on limited budgets and wanting to get the best bang for their buck.

No, he was just born a giant dbag.

To the subject, as long as the listener enjoys the music, it doesn't matter what it's played on. My gear is all mid-fi, at best, but I enjoy what I have and get the most out of it.

Sorry Cathy...but this is total BS.

It is just as often the other way around. The folks that have migrated to higher end gear (including cables and other tweeks) have constantly taken crap about buying into voodoo and snakeoil and being stuck-up about their gear by newcomers that want to waltz in hear and impress everyone with their "knowledge and insight". Many "longtime members" have tried to help by making recommendations of gear based on their experience and have been blasted for being snobs and audiophiles (simillar to your comment about sneering). It seems that the mere fact that you have high end gear and value the performace of it makes you a snob. Gear envy maybe?

Many of those folks no longer post here...especially about gear...for that very reason. And CP is much poorer for it IMO.

Yeah everything is cool with most folks here unless you own/like Carver gear or Bose. In that case, you're a hopeless, clueless wretch who can't possibly understand the "it" about music appreciation. Whenever it becomes more about the gear than the music, you're already lost IMO. I learned to love music on the crappiest flip down-fold out stereo record player Sears ever made. and to me, it was the greatest thing in the world. Always endeavor to glimpse the forest through the trees.
