Default Sansui B2101 amp (worth gambling on?)

I found one around and am debating gambling on purchasing it as according to the ad it doesnt turn on currently. I am curious if anyone has any experience with this amp and if so their thoughts and if its worth a 20 buck gamble.

    Found this online: http://www.allegrosound.com/Sansui_B2101.html

I'd be sorely tempted. I've wasted $20 on less.

That was my thought. Since it wont power up it might be a total loss, or something simple a local guy can fix. Either way if I can get a decently cheap amp to run my Monitor 60's for right now, I can focus on getting a good source and pre, and then upgrade the amp last when I actually have speakers worthy of a good dedicated amp....

This thing looks to have lots of wattage, but who knows...

Certainly could be an option. I'd do a little research on repairing them to be sure they don't use unobtanium parts. There might be a reason the guy is selling it cheap rather than fixing it. I am suspicious by nature and all that marketing gobbly gook in the link you provided might mean it's difficult to repair because of lack of proper parts. Then again if it's expensive to repair or parts are unavailable you're only out $20.

Do you know and trust a good repair shop? That can be a nightmare all it's own. I am speaking from a little experience.

Also unless it's something super simple plan on a repair bill or $200 plus. Again, it could be something very simple.

The ad itself isnt the actual seller (its just some info I found on it). The seller has got it posted on CL and is actually asking 125 obo for it. I told him I would give him 20 considering he cant even power it up.

Here is the actual cl posting: http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/ele/2690352462.html

There is a local guy I know with skills that has helped me out before. He does electronics repair for a local hi-fi dealer and has worked on things like bryston, krell, etc so I am sure he can fix it if it is possible. Not sure on what parts it uses hence why I am willing to drop 20 (not 125) on it.

I figure if its an expensive fix, I am only out 20 bucks, and if he thinks it might be worth attempting to salvage I might be able to save a buck or two.

Sounds like you might be onto something. Half the battle is finding someone capable and trustworthy to do the repair.

I love vintage Sansui, but when my integrated died on me, I couldn't find a shop that would even look at it. Heiney's correct, parts on some of those units are difficult if not imposible to find. Good luck!

Yup, otherwise I wouldnt even look twice at this amp. Plus as given by the typo's in the ad I dont know how much the guy selling the items actually knows about them.

I am hoping its something simple and I might be able to come out of it with a decent 2 channel amp (that I will eventually replace) so I can sell my HK 3490 to move on a good pre.

The earlier Sansui separates would, I'd opine, represent much better investment risks than the titular power amp in this thread.
FYI - Best resource for basic Sansui info that I know of is www.classicsansui.net

edit - oops, looks like it's gone, at least temporarily :-( time for the Wayback Machine, Sherman?

I'd take a $20 gamble, but then again, that's why I have a bedroom full of partially working, might work, one day will fix, ectt.. gear. I know you already have a TT, but I'd offer him another $20 for that Pioneer if it powers on and spins /w a needle. You could sell the headshell for almost that much if it's not better than what you have already. Heck for that matter buy it for $20 and on your next trip to Asheville I'll take it for $25

Yeah, that was my thought on what I would be willing to gamble on something that might not work. Not interested in the TT as honestly I have 1 LP and dont play on buying any. I will be staying all digital and maybe add a CD player later on.

I am not wanting to flip gear on CL. I have enough trouble selling the stuff I actually want to part with, that adding more stuff I dont really need/want just to make a buck isnt worth it lol...

P.S. All digital means all FLAC via a Squeezebox touch, not Pandora lol....

You're just scared to go down the deep dark hole the spinning black disk brings mayhem into your life and when you get that settled a little bit then some smarta** goes and gives you some tube thing a ma jig to get you started. Admit it you like being married too much for vinyl

I am not trying to be hurtful, just helping to explain my lack of need for vinyl. I was at the end of the cassette tapes and right at the beginning of the CD boom, hence why going all digital is appealing to me.

I was just giving you a hard time Enders. I wasn't hurt at all and sorry I derailed your thread. Hope you get the amp to try it out, it could be something as simple as a fuse inside the case I've had that happen before and got a good deal.

@Cody- No not too old, I'll turn 40 in February so I've got a few years left if the cigs don't get me first. I quit drinking 2 years ago and smoking is next on the agenda of bad habits that needs to end.

Yup, no response from the seller yet so I doubt its going to happen, but oh well, life continues.

No worries about derailing the thread, I dereail my own threads enough, its no biggie.

Recent ebay sales suggest $225-425. I'd risk $40 maybe $50 max if I knew a reasonable cost service center to do repairs I could count on. Here's a link w/ some more info-
