Default The Absolute Sound's 4 part article on computer music audio quality

The Absolute Sound magazine is running a 4 part article exploring computer music audio quality. It covers what programs sound best, what programs produce the best sounding rips, upconversion, the peculiarites of FLAC, and tweaks to make a computer music rig sound better. The articles use both scientific and objective testing and results.

The December issue contains part 1 and the January issue part 2. They are almost essential reading for anyone running a computer based music server.

Is anyone else here following this most excellent series? If not, I strongly reccomend this to anyone with any interest in this area.

I've been checking it out. The best people to benefit from the knowledge would be the folks that say digital media always sucks and cannot possibly sound good. I doubt they will so it will continue to just be ignored and a non-argument.

Since I got my W4S DAC2 I have learned a lot, and it sounds great and the convenience it a big plus!!

I'm sold on it, with that said I still love playing vinyl. My CD's have been taking a back seat..

Nice. Thanks for the heads up. I *think* I have a pretty good handle on my PC rig, but I'm always interested in ways to make it better.

    Cheers.

The best way to improve your rig Mike is to get a turntable. Digital audio is the lazy way.

When we move into a home of our own again, I will be looking at servers and such for a whole-house setup, but it will never take the place of my vinyl rig. I will be following the articles with great interest.
HT Setup... Pioneer Elite SC-37, Polk Audio SDA-SRS 1.2TL's , Oppo BDP 93
Two Channel... Carver Statement 450~1 Vacuum Tube Monoblocks, Dodd Mid-line Tube Linestage with Psvane 12Ax7 tubes, Pioneer Pdd 9Mk II SACD Player, Yamaha PX-3 Turntable with Sumiko BPS EvoIII, Polk Audio SDA-SRS 1.2TLs.
