Default Mounting height for rear speakers

My system has three VM20s and a MicroPro 3000 up front, R50s (which I think are now the Monitor 50s) on the sides and R15s (like current T15) in the rear. I want to dispose of their very shoddy stands and put the R15s on the rear wall. Should I put them at ear level, or should rear speakers go higher? If yes, how high?

I believe that I read somewhere that 3 feet above ear level was the recommended height. But, I'm sure it's a matter of personal preference.

3 ft above ear level sounds great to me!

Also, I think it depends on how far the back wall is behind your sitting area. In my case, my couch backs directly up to my rear wall and at 3 feet high the rear speakers would be too close. So, I moved them all the way up to next to the ceiling and
angled them down on adjustable speaker brackets. IMHO.

My main seating position is 6-7 feet from the rears and maybe 7-8 feet from the sides, while the fronts are about 9-10 feet away.
