    Default Monitor 60's for surround

I am thinking about picking up a pair of Monitor 60's (series 2). They are on sale locally for $265 for a pair.

Would they be ok for surrounds? I was waiting to see if the 50's go on sale sometime instead, but these seem to be a good deal. I have the 70's for fronts.

If you have the room for them, and the wife won't make you hit the couch when she sees them, sure, why not ?

I'm running 70's up front with 60's for surrounds and it sounds awesome. Also Cs2 center and 30's for heights and dual 505s for the lows.

Running towers for surrounds alleviates the headaches and added expense of purchasing stands or wall mounting...assuming you have the room for floor standers that is.

Thanks guys. I think I will pick them up. I have the room for it (and my wife's permission). It should be a decent upgrade over the small Harmon Kardon speakers I am currently using.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you, I have new mains on the way (yay), and will move my existing towers (70's) to pull surround duty.

To address 67jason's statement regarding headache of added expense of stands, I purchased lumber from Lowes, angle brackets, woodscrews and black paint. They're certainly not luxurious by any means, but for down in my cave, function before form. My surrounds and wides were accommodated for a fraction of retail prices.

Oh, and please excuse the wire clutter, it has since been removed

Nice set up Geoff. Do you have a Center? I didn't see one in the pic.

I just got back from the store, set up the 60's, ran the Audyssy (sp) EQ and gave them a test run. Wow, what a difference. I played parts of LOTR remastered extended Blu ray. There is a lot more sound filling the room and lots more going on that I couldn't hear before.

Very happy. I promised my wife that I wouldn't anything else anytime soon. I hate lying to her like that :).

Thanks brother, yes, I have one, I just recently removed the doors due to the heat, even with the fabric panels and fans I have inside, the heat was still a bit of an issue.

Telling your wife you won't buy anything anytime soon is perfectly okay, too soon could be anywhere from a minute to a week, so no lie, no harm, no foul, nicely played.
