    Default AR the turntable, what is it worth?

    Doing business about buying some speaks here, he also has an ar turntable.

    One channel was cutting out now its out completely, is it worth negotiating over?

    Are they qulity, Its referred to in what i could find as just "THE TURNTABLE" by AR.

    Has wood body

    looks like a nice table, and probably not hard to fix. Offer him 50 bucks for it and see what he says. I don't know about value, but it does seem to have a decent rep.

    They were only around $150 new in the 70s.

    I had one and loved the sound. I later bought what I thought was a better Yamaha turntable, and wondered why it did not sound as good as the AR. However, there were/are better tables than the AR, but I was not aware of them at the time. And probably did not have the money either.

    The October 2011 issue of the absolute sound lists the 10 most significant turntables "of All Time", and the AR is number 1. However, they explain that is because of the unique, at the time, platter suspension method. The say the arm is an after thought, and owners (not me) replaced the arm with a better one.
