I have a vintage polk sub that i acquired form a friend. Now the only problem is that it does not supply power to the speaker outputs and it buzzes even when i dont have a line in. Would this be something worth fixing or should i just trash it? Im pretty sure the glue is gone off the driver because it also rattles when a line is in. so i would pretty much send the whole thing into polk for repair but i dont know if its worth it to even send it in. how much do you think they would charge me?

There are places that can recone the woofer (just search your local phone book for TV repair shops, many of them provide speaker reconing services) if the driver needs to be fixed. Otherwise, I would suggest contacting Polk, as their CS department is very friendly and helpful. They should be able to set you straight.

Just an FYI - A reconed woofer is the functional equivalent of a new one and should sound like new. You may not need to replace the driver, if the magnet and frame are in good shape.

the frame and magnet are in good shape, the coil springs back its just a little tough to push in and rubs. i just hope the voice coil isnt shot

Yeah, don't throw away that woofer. Prime candidate for a recone.

If it pushes in and rubs, the voice coil is most likely damaged.

Did you say it doesn't supply power to the speaker outputs? The speaker outputs on there are simply a pass through.

Speaker outputs on the back of the plate amp? Or the internal speaker output?
