Constructing speaker stands for Monitor 50's

I'm new to this forum, and I had a question for you all.
I've been kicking around the idea of building speaker stands for the Monitor 50's to raise them about a foot off the ground. It's for my system in my bedroom, I have a wall-mounted flat screen centered at about 5 foot 6 inches off the ground, so I want to raise the speakers a little, so as to get the tweeters about ear level to where I'm sitting, also just about level with the bottom of the tv. I was just wondering what you would recommend on what to use as material for the stands. I have a fair amount of mdf, so I will probably try to use that for the base plate underneath the speakers, but I would like an open air look for the stands, rather than just a box for the speakers to rest on. Any general advice on stands, whether or not to use them, and how to use them would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I had Monitor 70's in a bedroom set up and built my own stands. Had them about 2.5' off the floor, toed in and slightly angled forward so the tweeters were pointing down. Our listening position was laying back in our bed.

The beauty of building your own stands, is you can design it YOUR way. I could give you ideas, but ultimately, your the one that knows what its going to take to make it right in your room.

Use them, no reason not to.

You've got the right idea, it's ideal to bring the tweeter as close to ear height as possible from your seating position.

If you're unsure about what to make them look like, or want to think outside the box, why not just google or search the forum? Also if you've got carpet, spikes would really help.
