    Default Amplifier comparision

What does everyone think on amplifiers? Go with onkyo, pioneer elite series or another style of amp like marantz? I will most likely be using an XPA-3 emotiva amp for front's/center and then I will be using the receiver for surrounds

if you just use the AVR to power the rears, then almost any AVRs will do. Smart move! . just get the cheapest AVRs with features you want with preouts.

AVR with a "pure audio" feature is nice for 2 channel listening.

Ok so there is no info to base this off of. You left no details of your system speakers room or anything to form an opinion. Tell me more and I will help you. Help me help you.

And just to help Dan out, I would add that he needs to have some idea of your listening habits: how much music, how much home theater? What type of music? Do you have a subwoofer or not? There are probably other questions, but that should get him started.

Listen to Dan, he has a lot of knowledge and is asking the right questions, we need to know more before we can have a debate on how to spend your money!

Kex asks good questions too, let us know how much HT your doing vs music, different brands will be more well suited for different habits.

    Default Equipment Update

Ok so I have no equipment yet but this is the speaker's it will power:

    1. Polk RTI A9 Front Left/Right
    2. Polk CSI A6 Center
    3. Polk FXI A4 or A6 for surround sides and rear's (4 speakers)
    4. Polk DSW660WI or 550WI sub

For amplifier i thought about powering the Front's/Center's and Side's on a Emotiva XPA-5 and the just the two rear surrounds on the basic amp that comes with the receiver i choose. Right now I am thinking onky TXNR809 but not sure. Room is 18'11in x 15'11in and is octogon shape with 22ft ceiling.

I will mainly watch movies and play console games, music sometimes but about 5% of the time as I love movies and the surround and realistic effects is what I am after

The onk should match up nicely. Onkyos tend to be very user friendly. Emo will be ok for your use, although you can find something better used, but I understand the warranty and new concerns. I'd also look at Ed, outlaw, epik, rythmick and hsu subwoofer offerings, although the 660 has some decent specs for the price. If it was me, I'd ditch the extra set of surrounds for now and spend that cash on your sub. The two most important speakers in ht are the center and sub, and as I say with subs, go big or go home.

    Dave-
Part of the problem is that you are asking virtually the same ?'s in multiple threads you started. I was trying to help you in the other thread, but I think that you are seeing pretty similar recommendations in both. As Cody states, I'd ditch the 7.1 setup, go 5.1 and apply that money to a better sub. YMMV

Sorry about that, I wasn't trying to get additonal advice, I just thought I had to start a new thread in different areas of the forum or in the forum like IE if I am talking receivers, I would post in electronics, or if I am talking speakers, I post in the speakers forum and I keep the subject to a single issue per post/thread. I am new to the forum so wasn't sure as many tech forums make you post this way
