    Default HELP!!! SDA-2b's

Well my "New" Sda-2b's arrived today and I ain't a happy camper! Effen UPS dented one corner on each speaker, the guy I bought them from tried to pack them well but he didn't bother to wrap the speakers in plastic so I've been vacuuming sytrofoam for I don't know how freakin long! One of the side panels is starting to seperate from the speaker, but I can fix that easy enough.

The biggest problem though is the crossovers are rattling arround in the bottom of both speakers! I'm not sure if it happened during shipment or if someone disconnected a couple of wires for some reason.

So my question to anyone that owns a pair is this:

There are 2 wires that are marked (on the crossover circuitboard) as "P" and "R" that are not connected to the coil that is mounted on the inside-back ot the cabinet. Does it matter which terminals these wires are connected to? I do not see any indicators for polarity or markings on or near the coil that indicate which wire goes where.

I really want to get these speakers running before I decide what to do with them. Any help would be appreciated.

    Signed,
    Me....One unhappy bastard!!

    Sorry to read this Frank...

I'm likely stating the obvious (but it's what I do best) when I say to contact the seller and UPS immediately. Let them know you are evaluating the damage, but let them know you've suffered some. Shippers get very uppity when you delay...

Sorry I cannot answer your wiring question. raife likely can, so yu might PM him...

    Good luck...

    Frank,

Sorry to hear that UPS has done it again!!!

If you lay the speaker on it's back, place the inductor (coil) and the attached pc board so that the connector pins on the inductor are at 10 and 11 o'clock. The "P" wire goes to the 11 o'clock pin or the one to the right and the "R" wire goes to the 10 o'clock pin or the one to the left. Has the pc board seperated from the inductor or has the inductor/board come off together? If you want, send me a PM.

    Thanks for the response guys.

F1, thanks for the info. The board came off of the plastic standoffs that are stuck into the coil. I've been playing around with them and I'm pretty sure I've got it set up right.

I'm not !00% certain that UPS is completely at fault here, and I'm really stumped as to whether or not to keep the speakers. I've been wanting another set of SDA's for a long time and might just keep what I got and work the bugs out. I can honestly say I'll never buy another set of pre-owned speakers again without putting my hands on them first. When I bought my Lsi9's from Hoosier I was apprehensive, but HE turned out out to be a straight shooter, wish more people were like that.....

Man I really got a case of the Ass over this. Oh well, I'll survive.

that is 1 way of doing it. if you flip the wires there should be no further damage but make sure the other speaker is wired the same.

I'll double check the wires tomorrow, Thanks!
I did get a few CD tracks played and so far so good, at least nothings sparking, smoking, or melting yet!

I'm going to call it a night and try to get a fresh perspective later on Tuesday.

    Frank,

That sounds like transit damage, those plastic pins can pop pretty easily.

Glad to hear they play ok.

    Unhappy DAMN

    Frank,

That is hard to hear, get some sleep, and check on it tomorrow. It is probably ok, those crossovers are fairly tough and generic, it should be ok. The corners being dented is messed up, I would certainly make UPS shell out some cake....just out of principal. Let us know.
