Default Any Polkies run a camera repair shop?

Picked up a Nikon D40 at a garage sale that takes very very dark pictures and sometimes displays error messages when you try to take a picture. I dont have much in it and if I can get it fixed fairly cheap I'd keep it for a back up or whatever. Might have some gear to trade (nothing spectacullar) and or $.

    Thanks,

    G

Sounds like what happened to my son's D40 after many thousands of exposures. There's a well-known failure mode. He had Nikon fix it; the cost (out of warranty) was somewhat less than the street value of a used D40. He, kindly, passed the repaired camera on to his sister :-) and bought himself a new-to-him Nikon D200.

    Here's the scoop.
