It was a good run but I really think they should move on at this point.

Here's an idea for them: Frailiens, the story of a group of travelers from earth that discover a nest of Aliens so "fragile" that almost any knock, poke, or shove causes them to instantly "disintegrate". The planet they land on has the same gravity as earth's moon so when one of them sneaks on board the ship making the trip back to earth, they are immediately "crushed" by the heavy gravity and the rest of the film is a series of jokes about this less than Hearty species.

Simply put. A satire of the original series starring Will Ferrell as Captain Wrex (wrecks) Spacepants. Comedy would be one place to go "next". Since the series has pretty much covered everything else.

It goes without sayin that I'm having some fun with you and pulling your leg!

    Might be worth a look?

I agree they went to crap after Aliens. Didn't care for 3 or 4 or avp series either. But the first 2 were outstanding. This one looks to be on par with them.

Fixed it for ya Sal. BTW how you doing good I hope and maybe with a little luck I'll see you at Polkfest this year.

It's Sci-Fi so I'll watch it as I don't believe in bad Sci-Fi, There are some that are better than others after all I've seen Plan 9 from outer space a couple times.

Watched this movie in IMAX 3D format tonight. This movie is top of the line, the best of the series with a very strong storyline! Picture quality is just marvelous! Audio quality is great but not too special that can make me go WOW. This is definitely a GOT-TO-WATCH! Ridley Scott has rescued the franchise!!!

Great movie. My only complaint was i thought Charlize Theron should have played the archeoligist. Definately gonna purchace the blu-ray when released. This is a MUST SEE at the theatre. A little slow in the beginning but a real thrill ride till it sadly ends.

Very good flick. Answers some questions for us Alien geeks and leaves the door open for more movies in the future. Not quite as scary as I thought it would be, but it definitely makes you think.

Awesome - I'm a closet sci-fi junkie so been looking forward to a nice summer alien / space movie :) Tonight hopefully.

Is it worth seeing in 3D? The only movie I've seen in 3D at the theater is Avatar.

You just made the people marketing Prometheus break down and weep.
For "A" holes to appear as if by magic mention Speaker wire and interconnects, For a jihad say

Saw it yesterday, and great movie. I still think the original is better, but it's a better SciFi movie than has been released in a long time. I really enjoyed that the movie takes place in the same universe, but is not directly in the story line of the original movies; good move. As far as picture quality, the 4k over Sony digital projector is fantastic and a great watching experience!

Without giving a spoiler, can I just say holy hell, this movie was awesome. I did not know it was in the alien universe. The ending scene made me say no effin way out loud in the the theater. It was a good thought-provoking flick.

This movie's 3D effects are quite pleasing to the eyes, I didn't find any scene where the 3D character(s) became out of proportion (i.e. too small) with the background.

I loved the 3D special effects. This movie definitely made the best use of 3D technology thus far IMO. Avatar was good, this was GREAT. Go see it in IMAX, don't wait for this to come out on DVD. Go at 12:30 on a weekday if you hate when other people are there, but definitely go.

I liked the story in general but some of the plot inconsistencies with the original Alien film were annoying (only to us alien addicts I'm sure) and some of the completely implausible science (think exploding head and DNA fragments recombining in a river) took away from my enjoyment. I'm not sure how they could have made it scarier but they should have. More movie time giant humanoid things and less with black goop would have been appreciated.

I think I generally agreed with reviews I've read and think the 75% rating was pretty fair.

Saw it last night with my son.

Both of us really thought it was great.

A cool mix of modern and retro looks.

Not everything is explained which is how it should be.

Scared the heck out of us, but the shocks and trills are part of the story rather than the story being an excuse for shocking moments.

First movie I have seen in 3D other than pixar flicks with my daughter, and it was very impressive. It was in real3D and was very well done. The sound was also surprisingly good, those as previously said its not an explosion fest or anything, which I prefer. It was more about the questions, the exploration, than the gimmicks. Definitely a great movie to see in the theater. And this is coming from someone who has never seen any of the Aliens movies yet considers himself a sci-fi fan (ducks for cover...)

And this last part of your comment (I think) makes a huge difference, you weren't expecting to see another Alien movie. Prometheus is a different kind of movie. I'm a big fan of the original Alien, but thanks God, I read a lot of stuff about Prometheus to understand it will not be an Alien movie like the first one. Took my family with me to watch this one on 3D at Studio Movie Grill and all of them were impressed by this movie.

Can't wait to buy the 3D Blu-ray version and give it a try at my HT.

    Cheers!

I must have seen a different version than you guys. It had great scenery, effects, sound and a good enough overall story. Some people may think that's enough for a great movie, but there are other things like writing, acting and character development - all of which this movie failed at.

I"m gonna give the acting a pass because this is a sci-fi movie and I don't necessarily need good acting. I'll also give the writing a pass, the overall story was good and the writing I'm bitching about is really only related to the one thing I won't give a pass, character development.

I don't need super in depth characters where I know everything about them, but if major characters start dying off I should at least care one way or the other. None of the characters were developed well, and what little effort they did put into developing the characters was really rushed and not very well done. The whole "you need to get laid" scene between the captain and blonde chick first of all was stupid, and secondly never went anywhere or followd up on, so why have it in the first place. There are all these people, and you never really get an idea of who's responsible for what. The character development and corresponding was so bad that it was distracting, I spent more time thinking "WTF was THAT!!?" than appreciating the effects and story.

I actually think that sometimes too much character development in a science fiction movie can even be distracting.

Think of how underdeveloped the astronauts in movie version of 2001 were. Heck, even HAL had more of a personality than the crew. I think Stanley Kubrick and Arther C. Clark did that on purpose to show how humans had become machine-like while machines had become human-like.

It's not a chick flick where all the characters have to talk everything to death and whine about their feelings and emotions. I thought that the whiney-assed geologist was actually annoying when they "tried" to develop his character through dialog. I wanted him to just please stop talking and just get killed in some horrible way.

    (SPOILER ALERT)

And I think that the Captain and the "Blonde chick" did, in fact, do the "BIG NASTY". I figure that's kind of why at the end of the movie the Captain didn't really mind sacrificing himself heroically to save humanity. I mean, like after you "do" Charize Theron, what do you have to look forward to in the future that would possibly be better than that. Everything else in the rest of your life would just seem like "oatmeal" after that.

Yeah but 2001 wasn't about the characters.

In this movie you could tell they wanted you to care about the characters, but didn't give you any reason to do so. I never said I wanted a chick flick, you don't have to have characters that whine about their feelings to have good character development. And by good character development I don't mean a deep dive into their background or emotional state, I mean characters that seem real.

This can be done in Sci Fi movies, many of the best have characters that you care about. Hell, even Independence Day got that part right, when the president's wife dies you actually care. It's not a drama where there's this big emotional thing, but there is some sense of "Oh, that sucks".

With this movie, basically everybody dies and you don't really care.
