Any experience with this stand for bookshelfs / Monitor 40's?

Hi everybody,

First post here, just entered the polk community by purchasing a pair of monitor 40's and a CS1 that were on sale. Very pleased so far, but the Monitor 40's are currently sitting on some textbooks, and I'd really like to get them onto some stands.

From the threads I've read so far, many of the stands recommended were $150+, which is beyond what I am willing to spend on these speakers (for that price...would have been better off just buying tower speakers).

I know the height isn't ideal for the monitor 40's, but it does get within 2-3" of the tweeter at ear level on my couch, and I tend to slouch back while watching movies, so I think it could work.

I have not mounted speakers on stands before, but from what I have read, hard-mounting the speakers is a big no-no. The baseplate of this stand is 8" x 8", which seems adequate, but slightly precarious.

Has anyone heard anything about these stands? Is there a way to make the speakers more stable on the stand (rubber feet...or velcro?)

Those should work fine. I just ordered some Bell'O SP-224 24" Titanium Speaker Stands for my 703's. Haven't tried them yet still waiting on shipping

Should be fine. Earthquake-proof? Of course not, but it's not like the speakers are going to rattle their way off when you're cranking them. Velco would offer some stability and peace of mind.

for you case, it's probably better just to sell the speakers, then buy monitor 60 or 70 at newegg for cheap.
it doesn't make sense to buy stands that cost 50% of your speakers.

Wow, your just full of bad advise aren't you?

Those stands are a great idea for his bookshelf speakers. Any bookie will sound better on stands than on an actual bookshelf.

Either of these,depending on your budget, would be a good choice,IMHO.

Velco would offer some stability and peace of mind.

I've been considering doing the same thing for my Monitor 40's, and while I do agree that it would be a wonderful way to make sure they don't come off the stands, wouldn't that velcro sort of defeat the purpose of having a solid stand(sound-quality wise)? Would it let it the speaker back and forth just like it was on carpet in the first place, possibly losing sound quality?

Thanks for the advice everybody, I decided to go with those Sanus NF24c's due to the good reviews, decently sized 8" x 8" top plate, and several members confirming they would be fine in this thread.

Will report back once they're set up, I'll hold off on the velcro until I see how they fit.

I made some stands for my 40's yesterday, took about 5-6 hours total, but they look amazing! I'll post some pictures of them soon. 37" tall, weigh about 25 pounds a piece.

Hey everybody! Got the aforementioned stands, I think they will work out quite nicely. The faux cherry matches well with the speakers. The stands include 2 different systems to place the speaker on the stand, either some grippy stick-squares or a set of sharp studs that kind of grip the speaker bottom a bit. I opted for the studs, which were just barely the right size for monitor 40's (not sure if monitor 30's are any narrower, that could present a problem if you want to use the studs).

The stands are sturdy enough to get the job done, but are by no means rock-solid. Also the cable "management" system stinks (it is literally just 2 routed-out strips in the wood about 3-4mm deep on the back of the support stand). In hindsight, I would say these stands work fine in a pinch, but making stands I think is where it's at. I think in the future I'd like to use these as surround stands and make my own out of actual cherry for the fronts.

I'm pretty sure the carpet spikes go on bottom plate of that stand.
