HDMI to modulator channel output?

What's the best way to do this? Looking to send that signal to other TV's in the house, digital signal perhaps. Not looking for something to send channel 3 / 4 but something so I can send the signal on any channel. I'll add this signal to a OTA signal to other TV's.

I assume you mean a high-def modulator (with ATSC or QAM output).

I don't know of any that take HDMI, since you would be decoding the HDMI for the purposes of distributing it and well, that's kinda the opposite of what HDCP is all about.

I use an Media Modulator now, but have a hdmi output only so need to get a hdmi to composite output converter. But I could do that for under a $100 or .1k It maybe only 640 x 480 mono but hey it's cheap enough.

If you don't need high-def, then an old-school modulator will do fine. HDMI to composite is going to be kinda hard to find, since you'll need a HDCP decoder (like the HDFury I linked) then a down-sampler.

I stand corrected, but I'd bet money that it doesn't decrypt HDCP. What's your HDMI source?

I'm trying to split the HTPC hdmi output to other tv's for movies on that computer, I don't like to converter the files so XBox can see those movies. Also like to split the XBox hdmi output so it feeds the porch tv, and other tv's via coax so they can see recorded shows.

The HDMI to Composite was a pretty cool find. I used to distribute a lot of stuff via modulators, so this would have been handy. Instead I moved to shipping HDMI over Cat6 using the Monoprice adapters (http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2) and wireless HDMI using the Brite View AirSync HD. With Brite View can be a little finicky at times (placement is critical) but it works well. The Monoprice ports have been rock solid.

I'm thinking that converter will handle HDCP, because the output is low res. It was my understanding that they were trying to close the high resolution analog outputs.

I'm a bit worried about the fact I'm converting 1080I 1920 x 1080 to 640x480 that it will cut off to much. That why I was looking for a hdmi input modulator, but for the money can't see it.

I work for a high end AV Integrator part time. I'm an install tech for high end homes in the LA area. They call me when there is a lot of work and they need extra people, I also freelance on the side. We've been using these modulators from Thor. They have them for all video inputs, including HDMI. The HDMI models even support HDCP. They have models for both QAM (cable) and 8VSB (off air) modulations. The units are a dream to configure, its all done with a web interface. They even have IP output. They are pro quality units, I've heard they even use them for pro cable headend modulation. I was impressed. They cost a little more, but you get what you pay for. We got them for around $5k. We got a multiple unit discount. When you compare the price to the Blonder Tongue units we were looking at (around $8k for 1 channel) it was a steal. Not to mention the Thor units have a lot more features than Blonder Tongue or Drake. My customer is using the IP output for Wifi viewing on a tablet and its working great. They are very happy with the install. I think the 4 channel units have an even lower cost per channel, something like $8k for a 4 channel unit.

Ran into one issue on this. Turns out the Thor units will not encode HDCP protected content. Ran into this issue on an install. Guess this is just one of the drawbacks of using HDMI.
