Default My new walnut SDA 1C end caps!

    Hi all,

I just thought I'd post a few photos of my new walnut end caps. It was a lot of work but I am very happy with the results. Its walnut veneer over MDF with an oil/varnish finish (with a fair amount of sanding). I also spent a lot of time trying to get the veneer seam as tight as possible (see the close up photo). End caps seem to be all the rage these days and I'd thought I would join the fun. Crossovers are next!

I know you get plenty of them ( rainy weekends ). My Mother lives in Eugene, Or. Bitches about the rain daily but it beats the snow. I tell her thats what she gets for living in a rain forrest. Beautiful out there in the summer.

    Hey Geoff,

I've seen a lot of your very nice projects. I'm sure you can relate! January, February and March are rough and it helps to keep busy.

    Chumlie,

I was just in Ohio last week for work. All I can say is that you guys are at least 3 weeks ahead of us. It was beautiful and 80 degrees in SW Ohio last Wednesday.

Trust me. Thats not the norm. Last year we had 2ft of snow. But it was a nice change. 45 and rain now.

    Very Nice!

Are those just for the bottom or do you have them on top as well?

I have them for both the top and bottom. Only so much room in the photo. I just set the spikes on them because I thought they looked cool against the wood.

That was so much fun that I'm thinking about making another set in rosewood. Any other suggestioons?

Also, what have people used for glue to allow fairly easy removal if I want to change things up in the future?

I would recommend using 4 through-bolts on them , like the larger SDA's. You'll have to drill 4 holes in the tops and bottoms of the enclosures, but it's so much stronger and easier to take apart if need be.

Have you thought about doing side rails for them, for a miniature SDA SRS /SRS 2 look?

    Hey Geoff,

Yeah, I was thinking about side rails; however, the grill cloth is in such excellent shape that I hate to mess with it. I do think it would look very nice. We'll see. Also, thanks for the through bolt tip.
