Monitor 40 Series II Bookshelf speaker placement

Hey everyone, i just recently purchased Monitor 40 Series II Bookshelf Speakers as my surrounds and i need a place to put them! I heard you dont want your surrounds at ear level...this true? if so i want to put the speakers high on the wall. the problem is that the speakers are pretty heavy and i cant seem to come up with some sort of solution for this problem! any advice will help! thanks

They should be above ear level, yes. Rule of thumb I think is 3 feet above the listening position. Just helped a friend install the very same speakers as surrounds, and we simply used a pair of glass shelves. IMO they look better than they would have using some utilitarian-esque mount. Why would you want to place surrounds higher than the other speakers? That makes no sense. Granted, if space is a concern then do it, but for sound quality it does not matter. You need to think of your HT as a multi-channel SACD surround sound system that also plays movie soundtracks. Then you can get optimum sound from it. I have 4 LSi15s for my HT. Am I supposed to mount them up in the air? Of course not.

I have those for my m30s... They work well and can be tilted down and to the side for proper listening angles... You may be able to find a better price if you search for one

Surrounds are for ambience, so you don't want them to be easily localized. With the tweeters at ear level, they will be easily localized. This is also why some surrounds utilize bipole/dipole designs. With those, placement height is less critical since they disperse sound over a wide area by design. But for a standard speaker, you want that tweeter above your head for the surrounds.
