    Default New 2012 Panasonic Plasma's

Looks like Panasonic has finally met/beat Pioneer Elites black levels. With the added extra features I can finally see Kuro owners finally having the urge to sell their sets. Even the ST series has bested the last year VT models black levels.

Yeah, I read that a couple places. Still went with a 60" ST30 from last year. It will be interesting to see if the black levels stay consistent long term as most of the places doing reviews have the sets for a short time.

Yup... as long as it ends with 50 your looking at a 2012 model. You cant find the 30's online for the most part (in the large sized I should ad). Trust me I looked .

    ST50 is the lowest line
    GT50 is the midrange
VT50 is the no hold bared panel

I'm looking at Amazon now and don't see any shortage of the 30's. Debating going with last years GT30 or this years ST50.

I own two Panny plasmas, but my next set will be LED. Those plasmas are mini furnaces.
Lots of Carver stuff and a pair of LSi9's

I was looking at the 60-65 inch models. Thats where it was hard to find em.

If it was me since the GT30 and ST30 models are close in picture quality (THX mode being absent in the ST30) I would look at a ST30 if you can find one in the line you want.

Otherwise I would get whichever model (GT30 or ST50) that was larger in size. But thats just my .02.

P.S. I based my decision after lots of reading off Cnet's website as well as user reviews. I am aware lots of folks say the GT30 is better. I also looked at both sets in person at a local hi-fi store and played with settings and decided I was ok with the ST30. YMMV

I must say I'm extremely pleased (as is the rest of my family) with the ST 65" 3D I picked up a few months ago from Sears. I had a ski mask on when I bought it...the price was that good. And in all honesty I looked at all models & there might be some minor differences but there was nothing major enough for me to consider the GT/VT models. Stunning picture!!!! They're all good...go with the best deal you can make on the size you want, of course bigger is better in my book.

Well... now that the 50s are out, it might be a good time to find a VT30 for a good price. I am after the 24p capability. I think only the VT series plasmas have it.

Yup, I almost picked up the same model. Sams Club had the 65" for 1599 but with sales tax it was another 120 which was too much over my budget (orignally 1200 stretched to 1500).

I picked up the 60" for under 1500 shipped to my door. Delivery tomorrow . Gonna blow my 56" DLP out the water .

I'd assume that like sweet sounding tube audio gear............the extra heat is a price worth paying for superior performance. As long as plasmas are made, I won't be buying any large flat panel TVs in any other category. Now, to take the tube/audio "leap" next !!

I have a Panny plasma and it is a very good display. Not sure what model I have but I think it's a '10 or model from last yr as well. Bought the 60" model and no complaints of heat with it though.

Yeah, I had to wait for my bonus to show up which was after everyone sold off their stock at firesale prices (not that 1500 for a 60" TV is bad). I was left with very few internet only pickings so the prices started to inch back up.

What vendor did you get yours from out of curiosity?

I think I mentioned in passing in another thread a week or so ago, but my old Hitachi 57" RPTV red convergence iC chip went out. After researching what it would take to repair, I decided a new TV was in order. Took apart the old TV and took it to the dump.

We started knowing what we needed (a flat panel 60"-65" TV, the bigger the better) and understanding what our habits and preferences are (very sparse usage, primarily Blu-Ray movies, generally at night). I began the TV research since I was out of TV market for a while. Stats, advantages/disadvantages, and reviews. Went to the bigbox stores and looked at the available products and brands and came away with three alternatives:
    60" Samsung LED 7000 series
    65" Panasonic Plasma ST series
    65" Samsung Plasma D8000 series

For our needs, Panasonic won out. We pre-ordered from our companies "Employee Purchase Program" the 65ST50, even though now it seems that we didn't really save any money compared to other retailers. But we are still waiting for shipment which is expected May 15 or 16. Another two weeks. Paid somewhere between $2400-$2500 after tax.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

I think I agree with the older models being heaters. I thought it was all in my old Onkyo... but, even with the Pioneer it still gets warm in my room. I guess it's time for an upgrade....I was in sears the other week and thought they had some good looking pannys...I figured they were all lower models....but I just cruised through to look.

How do the new Panny sets compare to the Sharp Elite Pro's? I like the Elite Pro's, but they're expensive, and its hard to find a properly set-up Plasma in a store these days.
