    Default sunfire amplifier noise

hello. i have a sunfire signatures series 2. 425x5. i can hear a slight crackle in the right channel at certain times. like a hollowness. i switch the banana plugs to left side and the sound moves. i switch the rca sound does not move.leading me to believe amp is problem. about system...onkyo avr.monoprice rca.polk lsi15 speakers.monoprice wires.and monster power strip-currently no power conditioner.(could that cause this?) amp was claimed to been completely serviced to specs. anyone know this problem please help.

From what I can make out of your post, you swapped the speaker cables, left to right/right to left and the problem followed. Is that correct?

Ok, so no matter what speaker or speaker cable you connect to the right channel, the right channel has a problem. Check for a bad binding post solder joint with the board as I understand they are prone to failure.

The 200x5 sounds perfect on exact same system(wires preamp source) ill definitely investigate the posts and solder. Thanks for the great suggestion. If it needs fixed maybe the ebay seller will help or do a return. He Claims it was fully serviced to manufacture specs. The sound isnt real noticeable at all but its definitely there. And i know it caused clipping on that right speaker which really frustrates me!!!! Let out a bit of smell. Not bad but definitely noticeable smell to just the right channel speaker. You couldn't hear obvious clipping either. Anything i should check on the speaker? Crossover? Resistor? Its brand new i want it to be right you know.

That's more than a bad solder joint issue. I'd suggest you not use that amp again.

As for your speaker, you'll need to pull the crossover to inspect it. I suspect you'll find at least one fried resistor.

I popped cover and everything looked tight on amp. You can only hear the problem on like a pop noise ex roaming netflix or a certain level of bass you can hear a slight distortion, sounds like mild clipping. Its very small noise that most ppl wouldnt catch. But unfortunately i did lol. Now i have to try and get refund or see if mr carver can get me tuned up. And yes good thing i have my 200x5 still.id die without atleast one amp. Is the crossover at top or bottom of cabinet? And just check for melted resistor?

Since you smelled a burning odor, definitely. The crossover should be behind the binding post plate.

thank you f1nut. your expertise is greatly appreciated. what a shame for brand new speakers though definatley think twice before buying used gear again. who knows maybe this guy will do the right thing for me too. will see. i just searchd and found another thread about 200x5 with exact problem no solution except send it to ritas repair which im thinking is my only solution to fixing the 425x5. but again thank you very much sir.

Did the seller say who serviced it and when? It may still be under a warranty.

no he did not. i have sent those questions to him,and hopefully get a response. unfortunatley its been about 36 days since i bought it just havent had alot of time with it. i plugged it in right at first to make sure it worked but didnt do a thorough enough listen to catch the crackle.

good news the seller has offered to take amp back to shop to be fixed. it is warrantied you are right on the money f1nut. appears you may have had done this a time or two lol. on the crossover i could not see obvious damage. and the smell wasnt really burnt smell. my friend thought it just smelled like new speakers. anyway what do i need to do to get crossover completely out to check them. not enough slack. i have meters and soldering irons etc if need be.and am decent in low voltage wiring. do you just unhook all speakers and leave pullstring to wire it back up?
