Thumbs up The search for a speaker is over...

It turns out that for every ass in the world, there's another guy willing to step up and do what's right. After explaining that I was that guy who they got sold out from underneath, I offered the guy who bought the Usher CP-6311's $50 more than what I would've bought them for. He obliged, taking the lowest offer he had gotten since he posted them for sale.

Needless to say I am now a proud member of the Usher family. I'm letting the tubes warm up now and will give them a short listen, but they sounded superb on his Krell gear (imagine that). We will see how they hold up against the LSiM-705's...

If I'm not mistaken, Doro is a bit of an Usher fanboy. I've heard some Usher bookies on two occasions. But never with TUBES. It will be interesting to hear what that is like!

The search is over for now. Make you happy?

These fit what I need/want for now. I still want to get my ears on more gear, but I think it'd be hart to best these at the price I got them for. I'm content with the speakers for now, but I still need to roll some tubes and get a solid source.

cnh, they sound great on tubes. For me, Usher's are very detailed but at the price of some fatigue. I didn't get much of that last night in my limited listening session, so I'm really hoping that's a telling sign of whats to come.

skip, for your 12at7 slots look into ge 6201, sylvania gold pin 6201, mullard 4024. you are good for now with the sovtek 12ax7 or you try the tung sol reissue gold pin ecc803s. i have a quad of eh 6ca7 or shugaung el34-b but the wing-c are pretty good. the eh6ca7 would be more neutral sounding with better bass.

How do they compare to the 705's you're auditioning? Love the 705's as they're very detailed without the fatigue.

Here's a quick phone pic. The piano finish doesn't even have swirl marks. The only blemish is a scratch on one of the side wood panels that I should be able to touch up w/ a marker.

So I've been rather frustrated with the sound I had been getting for a while. The Usher's are great at imaging/separation, but I couldn't get them to show it. After getting the Pangea AC-14's from the FM, I hooked them up to the Jolida and Pio BDP. Sound improved, but still nowhere near where I knew it could be. A few nights ago I swapped the Amperex's in for the Sylvania's and it improved drastically. I'm now getting details that I knew I could get and the mud cleared right up. The only thing lost was some warmth, but I'd rather have the details anyhow. Here is the current config:

    Usher CP-6311
    Jolida SJ-302A (2x Amperex Gold Globe 12AU7, 2x Sovtek 12AX7, 4x =C=)
    MIT Exp1 interconnects
Belkin PureAV speaker cable (soon to be PNF hopefully. They are a great improvement.)
    Pangea AC-14
    Pioneer BDP-51fd

Where might be the best place to invest now? I'm sold on the PNF's and can't wait for them to be back in the system. Would it be better to look at different tubes, interconnects, or find a real CDP/source/DAC?

I'd try a different amp and pre amp on those Ushers to see if it yields better results.

If they sounded great with the Krell gear, you may have to go SS to get that sound back. With those specs, I'd expect they like more power than tubes can throw at them.

You need to get a better transport and a nice dac and those speakers will sing. I used the same amp and it is fine.
