Default Feeler: Binding Post Cup replacement for SDA?

I am curious if there is an interest in these...

I have thought about it -

They would be similar to what I already have made for me but would be a thinner metal - engraved to say

Polk Audio with SDA below it

Predrilled for binding post and a SDA connection - the only downside is you would have to enlarge them to whatever you would need them to be...

I would probably be able to do them for around $24.00 a piece with a minimum 20 quantity order... (from the factory of course)

    Thoughts?

I might be interested for a pair of CRS+...but, what do you mean by needing to enlarge them?

I might be interested but I'd need a drawing or mock-up. How would the x-over fit on the new binding plate? Are all the models the same?

    Hey guys,

The holes would have to be a standard size - so I would have to choose between standard binding post + SDA or do all standard binding post...

The problem is some high end binding post are wider, hence you might have to drill out the holes to be larger

The SDA connection - some guys do binding post, some do XLR, some do speak on, some do the standard connection -

Either way... you would have to start with a smaller hole then enlarge it to fit your poison... (thoughts??)

If you were to use one with an inductor on the back - you would have to remove your connections and you would have to install the new binding post with long, bolts - you would then attach the old binding post cup on the INSIDE of the enclosure and the new one would go on the outside and act as a fascia... thoughts?

Unfortunately I am not CAD artist but it would literally but a circular plate, roughly 3/16" thick, slightly rounded edges -

There would be the standard configuration for SDA/+/- connections -

Then at the top say Polk Audio then at the bottom SDA

It would look similar to my Vr3 plates, just round

For some reason I thought it had to be made with a non-conductive material?

I was thinking the same thing, to replace them one day. One day when the price comes down a bit I want to buy a 3D Printer and then I can make all these parts myself.

Actually I just found this one and it's only $750 http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...dream?ref=live

The one I saw last month was like $3200

You would have to use insulated binding post or put nylon washers between regular binding post and a sleeve to put around them

Everything would line up as a drop in replacement...

I could have the binding post/SDA holes cut whatever way you guys agree would be the best....

One thing about them being a flat plate is the posts would stick out past the back of the speaker which could be a problem if you had to move them. PFB need I say more.

I can have them made recessed but obviously that would drastically increase costs

    What would constutute drastically Trey?

Also, I have Larry's rings on the binding post cups now. Would these work with the rings? I would think so, but thought I would ask.

You could use these with rings but since they would be metal you could also just install them with a bolt and tighten them down pretty hard as they are...

If I had to guess, to make a recessed plate it would double the cost, just a guess.

Those are very nice looking binding post replacement covers. I would be interested in a set for my SRS 1.2 TLs.

Would there be an extra hole for the SDA Binding Post?

There would be three holes in the normal Polk arrangement...

For this to be viable it would probably need to be the flat arrangement...

At this point I don't believe there is enough interest to do a run (20)

Trey, wait for Larry to do up his binding post cups and replace them with pictures, etc. There may be more interest then...........

I am making mine with a flat plate (not recessed) but i want mine that way. Also mine will have a set of binding post's for the SDA Cable so I have a - and + for the AI-1 Dreadnought.

I just finished the Delrin Plate's today, I am working on the Stainless cover for them now. The will be lasered with the - and + as well, something like this.

    SDA AI-1
    (binding post's)
    - +

    SPEAKER HF
    (binding post's)
    - +

    SPEAKER LF
    (binding post's)
    - +

Keep in mind I still plan to use the Cardas Blocks as well..

If IRC yours aren't going to be a drop in replacement for the stock ones.

That's the nice thing about being you, You just make whatever custom part you want or need.

BTW: Got any of that Delrin plate left.

I'm also interested, and could draw up the plans if need be.

The Cardass CCGR-S posts on my 1.2TL's stick out about a half inch. If I needed to move, or ship, the speakers lying on their backs, I would unplug the binding post wiring harness from the crossover board and remove the binding post cup.

from a purely functional standpoint if one wanted a drop in recessed plate it could simply be mounted from the inside of the cabinet. It wouldn't look the best since the cutout is not laminated but should function fine. If it were designed as a drop in replacement with both options in mind any lettering could be placed so it is readable when mounted either way, that way the individual owner could decide if recessed or flat is preferential for their personal situation.
