    Default Carver 2000

A couple years ago I was buying up any broken Carver stuff I came across and ended up with a pair of Carver "The Receiver" 2000's. One of them worked but was really beat up and needed the display replaced and output relays were starting to go bad. The other was in great cosmetic shape but kept blowing fuses. I took both to a tv repair guy that claimed he could fix ANY electronics and asked thathe take the two and make one good working unit out of the pretty one. After several months of stopping in and checking to see that he hadn't even started on them, one day I went buy to see that he went out of business. I asked a few of the surrounding businesses what happened. They said he came in and cleaned out the shop and never came back. Wow!! Where's my stuff ?? One of the other shop owners said he threw it all away. What?? He threw MY PRECIOUS CARVER STUFF away??? Anyway, I did a little dumpster diving and found both units at the bottom of a pile of tv's and tv repair equipment. Held onto them until I found a real audio equipment repair guy. I dropped them off last Friday and got a beautiful, working Carver 2000 receiver back yesterday! Brought it home and paired it with my Polk Monitor 11's and an old Pioneer 12 disc changer and man does it sound great! It is rated at 200 watts per channel and it really brought the 11's to life!

I've got one of those 2000 babies that is pristine enough to be in the Carver Museum.

Glad this story had a happy ending! What a douche bag that guy was.

I have the original Carver Receiver, 130 wpc, that I loved back in the day. The tuner section stopped working but everything else still works.

Also have a non working TFM 24 (the one without the meters) and a working TFM 42 doing duty as PA for front L-R mains in my HT.

Love to get the 42 refurbed, and the other two repaired.

Drumminman, there was a guy selling a coupe different chips for The Carver Receiver that was supposed to be a fix for those tuners. What exactly is yours doing or not doin?

George, the 2000 I have is in really great condition. The wood sides are perfect, no dents on the case and face has no scratches. Only flaw I have noticed is one scratch on the top rear edge of case about 1 inch long.
I have been into Carver stuff since mid eighties when a friend of mine took me to check out his much older brother's Carver C-2 and M-400 cube with a pair of Vega D-8's. That thing dimmed the lights when it hit!

Glad to hear you got them back and got one up and running between the two. I had Carver M-1 and a C-2 in the eighties. I still have the M-1 and now have it teamed up with C-4000 pre and TX-11A tuner. Right now they're in the basement and not in use, but I have plans to have them refurbished and set up in basement workshop or the garage. Good luck with your receiver.

WHen I last fired up the receiver, the tuner section wouldn't work - only static.
