After going through these pages that name of Mr.Borgiorno has been heard by me before. Being a Dead gear head that's where I heard the name . After Bob Weir ditched his Mac 2300s for whatever reason he went w/ GAS amps and the original AMZILLA was his main power source after they tore down the WOS and he gigged w/ his own band Rat Dog. From what I heard they were not all that road worthy until some improvements were made then became standard fare for Weir for a long time.

My uncle had one of these running a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls when I first got into audio...I lost count of the times I stayed the night at their house and got yelled at for playing that system too loud at 2am.

Of all the equipment I've ever owned, selling the Alpha 2000 was my biggest regret. It was a truly effortless sounding amp that never seemed like it would run out of power, no matter how hard it was driven. I could not say the same about some "high current" high end amps I put it up against in my system.

The Nikko Alpha 2000 was the flagship of the ASTI Collection, circa 1988. They also made a companion Beta 600 preamp with parametric controls, the first and only Nikko model to have that feature. Nikko was acquired by the ASTI Corporation of Japan in 1986, after which they started production on a new line of separates, the last made by the company prior to exiting the consumer audio manufacturing business in the 1990s. ASTI Corp of Japan is still in existence today, just not making consumer audio electronics.

I had no idea that the Nikko brand was active as late as the late 1980s (but I was distracted in those days by raising a family & starting my first 'real' job after my postdoc, etc.).

Maybe (??) this one - the 'vertical tasting' of Yamaha CR-xx20 receivers is almost all in one place now. Yeah, the R-1000 and CR-1000 are not elements of this set ;-)

I ran the SR-9 reverb all during the '80s and part of the '90s. As the quality level of my system improved, I found it was doing more harm than good, and removed it. I now use it in my party system. I also have an SR-60 reverb.

Nice Yamaha stack. Like the Fisher and Dynaco pieces as well.

LOL. I need new glasses. From a distance they looked like a 1960s Fisher receiver sitting on a Dynaco PAT-5. Now realizing its not even close, PAT-5 has different sized knobs.

I know this pix is over a year old but I just caught it. I have DCM TF 350s.A friend of mine out west has a pair ,very rare pair of TW series 7s.Only 200 pairs were supposed to be made and from what I've been told worth every cent they were going for.I still have never heard any of the Time Window line.

The only timewindows I can vouch for are the originals; they are excellent. I have no reason to doubt that later versions were likewise - but they certainly got more and more complex in their design and implementation (which, IME, can be a double-edged sword).

Here's a Technics SA-400 that I just worked-over. It wasn't in great shape when I got it, but after going through it, I'm kind of impressed with it now. This is a lower-mid range model from, I think, about 1979.

Apropos of nothing - Here's its cousin (well, maybe more like its older sibling) - an SA-4270 (ca. 35 wpc, if memory serves, and one model cycle older than the SA-x00 line of receivers).

Nice! Opinions on my LED dial lighting? The original bulbs, which were all out when I got it, had a blue tinted (lacquer?) coating. The replacements I got didn't have it, and I thought they looked too bright and too yellow. After several attempts at duplicating the original blue coated bulbs, I decided to just light it with LED's. They looked good to me color-wise, but the original dial lights are powered from AC, and the LED's didn't look good with the flicker, so I built a rectifier/capacitor board. Then just because I thought it'd look cool, I put some green above the meters that just gives a little tint.. I think I like it. Looks nicer in person. But then sometimes I think I should have just stuck with white. Oh well, I left it all where one could easily go back to the original type bulbs and no one would ever know.

Did the SA-500 use the STK power pack outputs?

That's right! Mrs. H, long ago (back when she was still Ms P), had an SA-300... and there was a slight greenish (as I recall?) tint to the dial light... it's been a long time, though. Her SA-300 was stolen; she replaced it with an SA-303 (which we still have, actually). The color of your SA-400 dial looks great to me!
