Here's some pics of a Pioneer SX-780 I rescued at a garage sale for $5. Good think I didn't turn it on until I opened it up - I wonder if it would have started on fire from all the dust in there!

Note the 3rd 'clean' pic is not mine - from the web. I can't find a clean pic of my personal 780 for some reason, though I insist it looked mint! :)

It worked perfectly (and sounded great) after a cleaning. I traded it for a set of refoamed Boston A100s.

The irony of my TA-8650 has gone full circle... I bought a TA-8650 in 1976 and used it with a pair of Magnepan I or IIs... Can't remember which model exactly. I loved the system but the speakers had no bass. Subwoofers back then were non-existent. I am now using my current TA-8650 with a pair of Magnepan 1.6QRs and a Polk MM1240 subwoofer...

The photo shows a Polk RT55i with the MM1240 subwoofer when I took the picture. The Magnepans replaced the Polks.

On a sidenote, I am currently building a dual driver MM1240 subwoofer. The box alone weighs about a 100 lbs with nothing installed. I will post info when it is completed.

My Sony STR-7045. Maybe I posted this before? Anyways, I had this for a while and liked it. Really smooth sound. I had an STR-7065 before that I thought sounded sharper, but had a bad cap along the way somewhere and developed a hum. The 7045 was pure buttah, and nice to look at.

Eventually I'm going to dig all those things out of my closet and make a certain vintage aficionado giddy.

Gorgeous Sony! Wow, am I looking at this correctly, the volume control on the 7045 is cranked to 4 o' clock?!?!?

:) I think that on this unit the volume started at 12:00. But I also do remember that it would get louder much more progressively than some receivers - where you're already at high levels in a few degrees of travel...

    Sneaky guy.

Other than the Marantz 2216, I don't think I have anything that new in my closet. Early 60's is about as late as it gets.

Randy I am impressed/amazed by the productivity of your terrior :-)

so - Sony noise reduction unit, is that?

... and the AKAI GX-210...I think I've got one of those in the basement, courtesy of a friend. One channel is silent(and I haven't managed to figure out why).

After almost 33 years of marriage, the wife and I long ago came to an understanding where I don't need to sneak gear past her. "Bribes" of new furniture, vacations, etc. certainly helped.

Same here, my wife's no help. She says "Bill" go ahead and buy it. What I need sometimes is the voice of reason.
I don't need any help being irresponsible. I've been able to do that alone for a long long time now. LOL

You'd think a guy could get a break from his wife considering that it was just his B-day?

I've really slowed my buying down. Have enough vintage stuff around to rotate things in and out for days! lol And my wife just thinks it's a "useless" and "unbelievably unproductive" hobby! lol

I can't quite understand the obsession with old R-2-Rs. They seem a pain to repair and the only people who would use them are vinyl guys who want to do a "mix" tape of favorites so that they don't have to play a dozen LPs but still have good audio quality. At least that's what we used them for when I was in H.S. Of course they look totally "cool" and "retro". And if you have one that will do 15 ips speed and can find a "Master Studio" tape, well then you DO have something. But those are few and far between!

A Sony noise noise reduction adapter? Really? What a strange little thing! Didn't even know those existed.

    Enjoy!

Cnh i posted a ad in Clist wanting some reel tapes. This guy calls me up n says he has 35-40 tapes-machine-Sony NR & box with tons of accs/you name it-its probably there for this little set up. I said i was only interested in tapes. He said 40.00 for the works. He said he made sure everything worked before he called me. He said it was mint cond & used it last 2 years ago & sold his receiver. He showed me his little hand held radio's he uses now cause they dont take up space. Pine Pt Rd Scarborough was worth the ride. Im on road today but will post pics later.

    1) They (the above-mentioned CA-810/CT-810) don't just look nice...

    2) I shared my most recent largess in another thread, but a photo here also seems appropriate...
