    Default New Subwoofer Recommendation Needed

I'm currently using LSi25s in 9.2 setup, but when I watch movies I occasionally hear the subs crapping out. I've looked at the DSW Micropro series, but the reviews are so-so. Are they worth the upgrade from the powered subs inside the Lsi25s?

How does the Polk Audio DSW PRO 500 series compare to the LSi25 subs and the Micropro series? At 300 bucks on Amazon, it's much closer to my pricerange. Would I notice a difference from the LSi 25 series and would it be worth the investment?

How big is the room? If the room is small, maybe... But a sub that small won't do much over the LSi25s if any....

I heard Amazon was going to start charging sales tax tomorrow, July 1, 2012.
I have two PSW-505 but I only use them in action movies as my 2.3tls are enough for anything else. Having two means I don't turn then up much so they never sound strained or boomy Thanks.

The LSI 25 specs say that the so-called subwoofer is a 10" driver. Subwoofers are all about moving air, which is facilitated by a driver with a large diameter (12-18") and long linear stroke (at least an inch or 25 mm). 10" drivers are inherently limited in this regard.

A room that is 12 x 12 with a typical ceiling height (8-10 feet) is a relatively small room. Small rooms introduce a build-up of bass starting at a relatively high frequency, often above 50 Hz. Recommendations for subwoofers therefore need to be less aggressive than they would be for a room that is say, 2-3 times as large.

The safest approach is to evaluate your system's current performance by objective means, which is relatively easy and economical these days. I suspect that your next subwoofer would need to be in the $600-1200 range to show a clear advantage over what you already have.

I have the Def Tech Supercube 6000... It sucks for a $1000 sub. A 9" driver (with two passive 9" radiators) just don't move a lot of air. The SPL between 20-30Hz is about 15-20dB below the SPL between 30-40Hz. The -3dB point is about 29-30Hz and it rolls off above 100Hz at the top end. If your primary speakers don't go too low, you will have a mid-bass suckout. I preferred my older Polk PSW650 (which died unfortunately) which had a better bass balance (but still nothing below 30Hz)...
