    Default Help with Monitor 10's

    Hi all!

I have a pair of 10's dating back to somewhere 1990ish. The serial #s are 206927 and 200569.

Can anybody please confirm the vintage? Also, does anybody have a source that could indentify the value of these beasts? The enclosures, grills, drivers, etc are in great shape.

Last, were these speakers built back in the days before today's mass production quality?

    Thanks,
    Stephen

Thumbs up Welcome to the forum

Remove one of the 6.5" drivers and the date on the rear should clue you as to the vintage. Remove one from each cabinet, just to make sure there were no later replacements.

That is a great speaker. Value wise...about $150(G)-200(VG)-250(MINT) perhaps....someone else can add a high or low to that.

    Thanks guys!

Yes, that picture looks my speakers.

What can you tell from the serial numbers? How I can confirm that these are 10s?

dorokusai - Are you speaker values per speaker or for the pair?

    Thanks

How can I tell what exact model they are? (10, 10B, etc) This would be great to know if/when I need to buy replacements parts (tweeter, driver, etc).

    Much thanks!

That would be a guesstimate on a pair.

The serial number issue would have to be asked in the Troubleshooting forum. Ken Swauger, the Moderator and Polk Pimp, can help with that issue better than we can.

If that is what your speaker looks like, than they are most likely Monitor 10's. It sounds late enough to have been the 10B. Find out the year off the driver, it is the quickest way. The label may also say "10B" or "10A". If you remove the passive radiator, the model number should be listed on the circuit board.

The only other similar speaker is the SDA 2A and SDA 2B, and I use that term loosely. Simply based on driver configuration. They would have a "SDA ??" mentioned on the rear label. Plus they stopped production in 1991. I dought that is what you have.

I bought my pair of M10's Series 2 new in April of 1991 (still use them for the fronts) and they have a 7 digit S/N. You probably have the 10b's since you have 6 digit S/N's.

Pull out the tweeter, if it says SL2000 then you have the 10B. If it says SL2500 then you have the M10 Series 2. IMHO, the 10B is worth more money.....as Doro stated, $250.00 mint.
