Default 2 smaller or 1 big sub

I am looking to upgrade in the sub department. Was thinking of two 8" subs as opposed to a 12". Listen to a lot of music and HT as well.

Always buy the biggest baddest sub you can afford. Its very easy to turn down the volume on a loud sub. You cant always turn it up though....

Lol. I get the badass thing, but I am looking for a tight, punchy thump. Will a bigger sub have the "tight" factor?

A higher prices sub is more likely to NOT have sloppy bass. Given your budget look at the HSU STF-1 or STF-2 offerings. Very good dynamic sub and not really expensive either.

Otherwise your looking at a PSW505 from newegg or trying to find a steal on Polks ebay site. I would NOT recommend any of the other PSW subs...

Highly doubtful you can find even a used one of those for 300. He needs to kick it to 400 IMHO to really start finding good used subs....

I've owned a SVS 16-46 cylinder first and traded it for a SVS pb12nsd, I found them on craigslist for $400 and think that'd be hard to beat for the price, IF you can find one local.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I have done a little research and I think I'm gonna try an HSU VTF-2 MK4 Subwoofer. Lot's of good press and reviews and not a bank killer. Will try to find a deal out there!

Two subwoofers will have flatter bass response.

I'd go with the HSU you won't regret it. If you want to add a second one later on you'll be able to, but don't get a sub that's half as good just so you can have two of them.

Sorry but I don't know how you can recommend two white van subs over a HSU.

I said white van before you guys could. The op asked about two smaller subs that could give him some punch and two of the subs I posted above would do that at $300 price. Amazon, Newegg and others sell them.

I don't try products that state this for a subwoofer: Certified High Definition

Also, no auto on or phase control? Phase control is an absolute necessity for dual subs. And who wants to have to turn their sub on each time they use it?
