Hooking RTi150 to denon 3803

I have a pair of RTi150, Denon 3803 and two power amps that I would like to hook them up together. What is the best way to do it? I am thinking of connecting the preout to the amp and to the woofer of the 150, the top half of the 150 to the 3803 front speakers, and set the 3803 to small. Or should I set it to large? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Depends really, what external amps are you using? What is the wattage on them? Since you have two, are they bridgeable? Do you have a dedicated subwoofer? Alot of questions I know, but it would help determine your useage.

What amps do you have specifically? Regardless though, if you do bi-amp them, by all means, set them to large.

Musical Design at 75 wpc and bridgeable to 150w. Velo subwoofer with 15 inches.

Well, you can go 1 of 2 ways here. You can bridge each of the power amps (I understand you do have 2 of them, right?) to drive just the woofers of the 150s and use the 3802/3 to drive the tweets/mids, or you could bridge each of the amps from the preouts of the Denon with a Y splitter to drive each of the 150s by themselves, one channel for the woofers and the other for the tweets/mids.

If you go the first route, you could possibly run into some gain differences between the 2 different brands of amps (as a side note, I personally don't like mixing amp brands in a bi-amp configuration), thus throwing the sound out of balance, ie. the bass could way overpower the highs, or vice versa.

The 2nd route is that those amps still might not be quite powerful enough for the 150s (ask faster about that), but it would still probably be better than using the Denon alone to drive them.

All I can say is try it both ways and see which one you like best, and maybe later on down the line, look into getting a suitable amp or amps for them. I'm driving mine in an Adcom bi-amp config. with 325 watts total power, and I honestly feel that is probably just a little more than the bare minimum required for them.

Either way, don't forget to remove the jumper straps between each speakers set of 5 way speaker wire binding posts.

Still one other last option you have is simply run the 150s on small or high passed with only the Denon at like maybe 40 HZ since you have the Velo. sub until you can get an appropriate amp for the 150s.
