I watched this last night and it was just so cool and pretty to look at that I could honestly watch it again and I cannot say as much about 98% of the flicks I view. The performances were riveting and the script was really witty but most importantly was that the audio was top notch. The was so much period music from the 70's and it was balanced or timed to the point of brilliancy. Speech was clear and every channel was used to fill my room with the atmospheric world of Dark Shadows, for a bluray this is what its all about

Good to know, seems to have a lot of what i love in a flick.

Forgot all about the music,I remember us commenting about that when the trailers came out.

BTW, just saw a commercial that promethius is out on blu ray, so, problem solved, looks like deb and I have a good weekend ahead between a ride to look at the mountain foliage on saturday, followed by georgia football, then ending up with dark shadows , and sunday, Im thinkin homemade meatloaf, mashed potato dinner w. family, Falcons football and prometheus.

Sounds like a good full weekend before we go tuesday for results of debs latest cat scan and chemo.

Prometheus is not out yet, looks like it will be the 9th, or 11th, depending which video clerk you talk to.

Thanks pfb, I will check it out

Last night we watched a documentary about Rory Gallagher that was pretty good.

I saw him in 75, 76 in atlanta, opening for nazareth.

Not gonna say he blew them away, they were outstanding, but we really came away expecting him to become a much bigger deal than he ever did.

For those not familiar, his music was very much in the Cream, Blind faith, power trio vein.

Also started watching, but didnt finish, a tribute to Phil Lynott, with Gary Moore, who, other than the Strat Pack celebration of the fender strat video, I know nothing about, and have never seen.

But let me tell you, the guy knows his way around a guitar, and pretty good vocalist.

Sorry i cant remember the exact titles right now, but check out either name on netflix, im sure these will come up.

I thought dark shadows was actually pretty good. Much better than I expected. Until te end that is. If I had left the theater 5 minutes early I would have given it 4/5. At least a whole point deduction for the ending.

We watched it Sat. night, lots of fun.

Did anybody notice Johnathan Frid, the original Barnabas, being led in to to the party which alice cooper was singing for.

Some of the other original cast members were around him.

Thought Helena Bonham Carter was great as Dr. Julia Hoffman, one of the great sceneery chewers, she really got a lot of the actresses little traits down very well.

All in all a well spent 1 and a half hours.

Newrival, was it just the ending in general you didnt like, or something in particular?

Endings are tough it seems for directors, if you are worried about spoiling it for others, pm me.

Gotta check out that Rory Gallagher doc. He's on the wall of fame in Dublin right by Van Morrisson, U2, etc., that's how much they appreciate him. Not sure why he never really made it giant, I suppose the documentary gets into some of his various issues. Never saw him live, but myself and some friends were pretty into him and he could sure wield that axe. I'll have to look back through my vinyl, I seem to recall a live album (or two?) that were pretty good. Another blues guitarist who never really made it really big from around that same period was Roy Buchanan, also RIP. Roy Buchanan's Second Album is one of the all-time great albums. Check that out sometime.

I know his reason for not liking the ending is due to CRS, but it also brings up a particular gripe about Burton's movies in general. I'll go on record as saying that he is probably one of my top three favorite directors, but the man's achilles heel has ALWAYS been his ability to properly end a movie. I don't know how much of it is to blame on studio interference, but his endings are generally disjointed and more often than not, veer drastically from the tone of everything else preceding. Sleepy Hollow is a particularly egregious example, but you'll pretty much find it in all his films - where he opts to either ramp up the action or alter the pacing in some odd way.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore
