Default Pioneer SX1010 Marantz 6300 Turntable

I live in NC but am from Penna. and will be heading up there for Thanksgiving. My best friend has a Pioneer SX1010 receiver, a Marantz 6300 direct drive turntable (not certain about the cartridge, probably a Shure) and a Teac A450 tape deck, all of which he got new in the mid-70's and none of which he has used in 20 years.

I told him I could probably sell them for him on CL down here around Charlotte, but I am not certain that's true. I now the Pioneer 1010 has a good reputation but am not sure how easily they sell. They should be mint condition since he has never moved and never used them much to begin with and takes care of all his stuff.

Does it seem like equipment that I can sell fairly easliy on CL (I can't post here yet and wouldn't want to ship it anyway) for him? And if so, anyone have rough guesses as to what I could ask? I won't bother bringing them back with me if the money is worth the effort.

He also has a nice set of Marantz Imperial 8's that he got at the same time, but there's no way I would have room for those in a Ford Fusion with 3 people. Wish I could get them for myself though.

Selling on CLs is a crap shoot. Won't bring the same price as ebay! BTW. That Marantz TT recently sold for $266 on ebay (I'm not familiar with it).

Many, myself included, believe the SX-1010 may be the best receiver of its time (better sounding than the monsters that followed it like the SX 1250 and SX 1980). I suspect that a 1010 can bring anywhere from $200-400+ depending on condition and location of sale! In a densely populated area or on ebay that item would lead to a bidding war that would "favor" you, the seller.

Tape decks I don't know. But the name TEAC was near the Top back in the day.

Marantz Imperial 8 speakers. Definitely collectors items with mixed reviews as to their sound. Some like them some, not so much. But those are granddaddies so they might be worth something! What, I don't know! I've seen Imperial sevens (which are much smaller) sell for $100-300 on ebay. But there are many of those available!

So can you sell this stuff in NC for decent coin? That question hinges on HOW 'close' you are to the Research Triangle, and boys who might be old enough to care and have some money to spare!

Good luck! Where in Pa. are you going because if you're closer to the Philadelphia or Pittsburgh area, those are also Hi-Fi markets?

cnh, the area I am headed to is about an hour north of Harrisburg. Actually, it's about an hour from every city in the Northeast. It's close to Pottsville, the home of the Yuengling brewery. I don't think the area would be very good for selling vintage equipment, and my friend barely watches TV, let alone messes with the internet, so I thought I could help him out down here near Charlotte.

I sell, or at least recently used to sell, coins on ebay (jimbos*coins) so I am familiar with selling there, but packing coins for sale and packing a 50 lbs. receiver, is a whole different challange.

I warned him that the tape deck probably wouldn't be very popular but I thought we might get about $500 for the Pioneer and the turntable, assuming everything still works well. The turntable is really beautiful, btw. Real wood and brushed metal, if I remember correctly.

Thanks, for the feedback. I will update this with some photos when I get them. And no, not to sell here, just to show the condition.

Jimbo18: I was reading that your friend has a stereo and turntable that you are trying to sell for him. I have twin 13 yo. boys that, believe it or not, are in to vinyl records, and asked for an "old school" stereo for Christmas. This sounds like it would be a perfect fit. I live in York, PA, which is about 30 min south of Harrisburg off of I83. I would be willing to make the drive to pick it up,
depending on the price. I need a receiver, turntable, and a set of speakers. I will include my email at the bottom so you can reach me. (I'm not really sure how blogs work). This is my first time. : ) Feel free to share my contact info with your friend. Thank you

Home of Bob Hoffman's York Barbells? No? Never been to York but most of the free weights in our college gym are Yorks. Anyone remember Bob? An old-time lifter. Died quite a while back, I believe in his 80s?

In any case. Good luck. 13 year old twins! Sounds like a handful to me! lol

I think the Marantz turntable was made by Micro Seiki, if so, it might be worth a pretty penny...

I remember Bob Hoffman and his magazine Strength and Health. I also remember the delivery man trying to deliver the 410 olympic barbell set to my home.

    Greg,
It was great meeting you and your sons. I hope they are happy with the equipment and enjoyed the trip to Centralia.
John and I both said we could definitely hang with you and we were surprised at how many interests we shared besides audio.
Stay in touch and I will let you know what he decides to do with his vinyl.
