g42 , you've blown caps in both speakers. The resistors appears to be fine, but should be tested as well. It would seem your new amp is allowing too much DC pass through as stated by Face. Do not use it again until it is fixed. You'll have to send those boards somewhere for repair.

Hey Jhayman, told ya emo sucks.

If such info was posted there, it would have been deleted shortly after.

Anybody here know whether Polk's tech support is useful by email or does it have to be by phone? I just prefer email to phone since during business hours I'm either driving, around noise, and often in poor reception areas. Also email would allow me to show pics such as above. But I know some companies just don't respond to emails in a timely fashion.

You don't need Polk's tech support, you need an audio repair firm because your caps are blown. You should get them repaired quickly before the cap goo starts to eat whatever it came in contact with.

@F1nut,..You think cause of the High Gain that Emotvia has on there amps may have been why the caps in his speakers went out?

Well, something happened. I've never seen caps with a flared out bottom like those and that amber stuff doesn't look like any hot glue I've seen either. Some of those wires look a bit melted, but that could be from the solder job.

I don't care if he reports me, won't be the first time and won't be the last. Folks get so worked up when their baby is called ugly. Me, I could care less if someone said that some piece of gear I owned sucked. I don't take all of this seriously, neither should he.

Make a lime out of a lemonade and send those xovers to VR3 for a upgrade.
Send the the amp back for a testing then a replacement or repair.

Yep, remove the crossovers and send them out to get redone. VR3 would help you on that. You need someone who knows what their doing as it appears the goo is leaking from those caps and as F1NUT said, who knows what else is fried.

I'm not so sure it was the Emo itself that did it. I have a feeling the day you hooked up the amp you gave it a good test drive and turned up that volume pretty loud.....very loud actually. Adding an amp isn't for increasing the volume by leaps and bounds incase you were under that impression.

I saw the suggestions but did not see a clear reply stating that you set the front speakers to LARGE or used PURE DIRECT with a two channel source. Did you try either?

OK..lets face it..the cross-overs don't look good at all. If you bought the 7's from Polk and only had them for a year..there under warranty. They will replace the cross-overs at no charge.

If your not the original owner..then i don't know, but you can buy the cross-overs from Polk, tell them your a forum member and you will get a discount on them.

If you bought the EMO amp new..pack it up send it back to them tell them it blew up your cross-overs and get your money back. If you bought it used..not sure what to tell you except...don't put it back in your rig.

Emo's suck .....caps blow ! Oh, the drama ! It is woefully inadequate to have only one audio rig in a domicile, Emo or otherwise. Do not accept derision from anyone that admires Sarah Palin's keen intellect.

Yep, sad isn't it ? When you bring Sarah Palins intellect into an audio thread. Clearly if we had Obummers intellect, all you audio snobs would have to share your gear with the Emo-ites.

For the record, I think you'd find it difficult to find someone that's less of an audio snob than I am. I don't dislike EMO, in the least. I do dislike that they, like so much other stuff comes from a country with such menace towards us in America and, a dismal record where human rights are concerned.

I don't care about EMO amps, one way or another. There cheaper then other stuff..if you like them great.

The fact if the OP had a set of RTi7's working fine off his Yamaha...gets an Emo amp, plugs that in to run the 7's....and blows his Cross-overs..on BOTH speakers..that should tell you this amp is NOT good. There is pretty much a problem with this amp.

I don't think anybody said this is a constant with EMO amps. I'm sure it's not.

The ops EMO amp..needs to be sent back....Not something that you want to plug in a new set of Cross-overs into.

    Hey.. enough already.. sheez..

Guy comes in here wanting HELP and the thread degrades into another "EMO" flame fest.. Makes CP look like a bunch of idiots..

Let's get this tread back on track and help the OP.

As far as the "glue" used on the XO it looks the same as what was on my A7' XO's.

g42, I opened up one of my RTi A7's for you. The lower board with the 8.2uF and 18uF caps (your pics) is the high frequency board. My caps also have the flared out bottom (weird, never saw caps like that before), but my resistors are all white, no amber/dark brown stuff on them. There is a very light amber colored (almost clear) glue of some sort on the board around the caps and resistors unlike yours, which has melted and turned considerably darker. That would indicate damage from things getting way too hot.

The low frequency board is the top one. There is one cap (C6), one resistor (R3) and one large inductor. I would look at that board for your problem.

Bottom line, your crossovers are the problem right now and need to be repaired.

How high (exactly) did you crank the volume with the amp in the system?

To the OP, Sorry to hear about your speakers. Those XO's are light enough that it won't cost you an arm and a leg to get them shipped back to Polk for repair. Their customer service is excellent and I'm positive you won't find the repair bill extreme. If you know a good local repair guy, you can order the replacement components from Polk at a reduced price for being a CP member.

Blowing caps or other parts like that is not normal. Not knocking your Emo but my advice is to return it and find a used amp from a higher end manufacturer. For around the same price, you'll be much happier all the way around.

The receiver is a bit weak for this set up and your configuration is suspect.
Its very difficult to blow multiple woofers at once.
Check speaker shorts +/- reversals at rear of amps/receiver/speakers.
I agree with folks who said crossovers are blown and Emo amp is suspect.
