Wet Speakers

We had a pipe burst last night in our basesment and soak one of my surround sound speakers. What should I do?

Buy a new one.
See you don't say what it is, if it's a $20 speaker just buy another one.
Logic would dictate that you would disassemble it dry all of the components as best you can
use a hair dryer on low heat or a fan, then allow a few days for the remaining moisture to evaporate.
Make sure any insulation is completely dry then reassemble.

Open it up and see the extent of what got wet inside. If the crossover is still dry, let the speaker air out or use a hair dryer as suggested above. If the crossover did indeed get soaked, I dunno man, too many nook and crannies to hold moisture. You can try drying it out but I wouldn't test it on your main rig. Hook it up to a cheapo receiver out in the garage and let it play a couple days first. To really be safe, snag another, sometimes it just isn't worth the hassles of not knowing what could happen with a water damaged speaker.

Good idea, but first it may be best to see what your deductable is on the policy. May be way more than the speaker is worth. Unless of course your making a claim for other things like carpet,ceiling,walls, plumbing, then maybe bundle it all together with the speaker in there.

I the woofers are warped. replace them, dry the cabinet as fast as possible so the wood wont swell and fall apart, take afaey part you can get to off and let dry in the sun, including the crossovers, if the cabinet of bloated and the seems ruined, call the insurance then have a bon fire, but if things look fine while disassembled, let them dry out and reassemble and test
i have saved many things my doing this, my most famous was fixing a vcr that had blood all inside it (it was my vcr and my sisters stupidity, long story)

Ditto on the home owners insurance policy.Of course it depends on the extent of damage to the entire area and you know if a carpet gets wet it's had it .Mold all sorts of stink and that's what it's for .If in fact nothing but the speaker was damaged then of course just try to dry the sucker out w/ a fan and the hand dryer for hose small places. check the insulation again that will linger and fester.
