In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence.

The purpose of the spikes is simply stability. The spike goes down through the carpet much like you'd drive a footing down to bedrock. Since each leg is adjustable it also allows you to compensate for uneven floors.
My solution was to simply go to the Home Depot and bought some carriage bolts and some rubber leg tips. Added a bit of silicone caulk in the leg tip to keep them from falling off. Cost about $10.
If you don't need to adjust the legs, then felt or rubber feet would work fine by themselves.
Took one of the carpet spikes to Home Depot and was able to match the thread pattern to 'feet' with a contact layer of a "felt-like" material beneath a white, round piece of plastic topped off with a bolt extension that has the correct thread pattern. The piece is just barely visible when screwed into the speaker feet. They are about $1 per.
Until I find something better, these will do the job.

Saw those ... very nice. But they looked to be designed to accomodate the carpet spikes which I plan to remove. Don't want to risk them on (the wife's) new wood floors.
