the final word on wadia transports?

My second year econ professor affectionately referred to units of utilization as "utils." I've been spending a lot of time lately trying to figure out what will give me the most "utils" with my tax refund.

At first I was thinking a turntable would be really neat, but on second thought I decided I didn't want to start a vinyl collection.

This leaves maybe grabbing a Wadia, which I thought would be an improvement to the thumb drive plugged into the AVR. Or is it? From what I've gathered, the advantage of the transport is to circumvent the cheesy ipod DAC. Does the USB port on the AVR not accomplish the same end? Any A B comparisons out there?

Not entirely accurate. You do realize that many receive a return without paying in? MY brother in law gets a credit for his kids and doesn't even work. His wife paid $2100 last year in taxes and they are getting a $6500 return!!!!!

It baffles my mind that people do not see this as a severe encroachment of the red line. I do wonder what will happen when the government stops issuing returns. I am surprised it has not happened already.

For your set-up, I would just use the USB port.

The Wadia or the equivalent would be if you were not using the DAC in your AVR (mainly I would think for external DAC and dedicated preamp).

You are correct, my statement wasn't entirely accurate. Thanks for bringing up the "burden on society" leeches to which the gov't has enabled for so many years. Jeez, I just realized the OP's user name is Sponger, coincident?

Why is this the final word? I use a Wadia 171 with a Benchmark Dac1 at work, and love it. I replaced it at home with a Bryston BDP1, and that is even better.

I'm looking to use the player without an external DAC. Without the DAC, to me it would seem that having the player only would be redundant if the user is satisfied with the USB port on the AVR. Would you disagree?

Would you still find the need to use the Bryston BDP1 if you did not have the Dac1?

Yes. At home I use the Bryston BDA1 DAC. It was an upgrade over the Benchmark. I suspect that using the Wadia with the 160GB iPod Classic is better than using a USB thumb drive. Can you create playlists with a thumb drive? Play songs in random order? Skip songs? Just play a single CD on the drive?
