I 've seen these 2 types of power transformers and wanted to know if there is a performance difference besides the obvious design feature. The round Toroidal that is found in more modern solid state amplifiers and the box type audio amplifier transformer used more predominately in older tubed or earlier ss amplifiers. I know transformers are all about the windings and how that is done and how many in what direction and so forth.Does either dissapate heat differently, is it a weight issue? So for engineering 101 what is the practical difference between the 2 styles of transformers.
