Cheap, REALLY cheap, subwoofer mod

In an effort to tighten up the bass in my Bic F12 sub I was researching on the net and found this thing called a "Subdude" on Amazon. Basically, it's a foam rubber mat that your sub sits on that decouples the sub from the floor, the theory that less floor resonance would equal tighter bass. Problem is I didn't want to spend 60 bucks on foam rubber to find out.

I picked up some of these from Lowes and put them under all four feet of my sub:

...and lo and behold, tighter bass! It's amazing what these do to clean up the sub frequencies. This is a quick, $2 mod that needs to be heard to be believed. The bottom end of my HT is really cleaned up with these things. I had to play around with the sub volume a bit--it needed to be turned up to compensate for the lack of floor resonance--but the difference is impressive. What really grabbed me is how well my bass shakers integrate with the new sub mod. Before, the shakers seems to be fighting with the sub, almost like a sub-bass crosstalk issue. That's gone and now the sub and shakers seem to work in concert.

If anyone tries this or has already tried it I'd be interested to hear their thoughts.

I have cone-shaped spikes (with small matching discs) under my subs. Spikes decouple subs from the floor, so the bass really tightens up.

How do spikes decouple a sub from the floor? The job of a spike is to couple a speaker or sub to the floor to tighten up the bass. When has this changed?
