Is XT32 really all the rage or overrated??

Im trying to narrow down my choice for a pre/pro to go with my new amp, but keep running into one roadblock, XT32. Everywhere I read that name keeps coming up. Is it really that important of a calibration feature? I mean, Im just not that anal. Id be perfectly happy with XT-Pro or whatever it is right below that one.

I have it in my Denon AVR and it's great. it measures the distance so accurate. I'd not get a HT AVR without this feature.

Im looking for a pre/pro that has 2 hdmi outs. A lot of pre/pros dont have that. Im looking at the Marantz AV7701, but it doesnt have XT32. Other than the Denon 4311 (which is an AV receiver) are there any 2hdmi out pre/pros with XT32 as well right now?

The Denon 3806 doesn't have XT32, nor do all the recent Onkyo/Integras only the higher end models. Just wanted to clear that up since the OP is asking about XT32 exclusively. I've used it briefly in my Onkyo 3008 before it died and it was nice but felt it to be a little bright with my speakers. It did a much better job of eq'ing my sub i'll give it that, but personally I still prefer Mcacc and the adjustability of it. Just my .02.

I forgot about the Integra DHC-40.2 which had just XT. The DHC-80.2 and 80.3 do have XT32 as well as the Onkyo PR-SC5508 and 5509.

I just bought an Onkyo 5509 and it arrived yesterday. I hope to set it up Saturday. Usually, I use the SPL to set-up, but I might give this Audessy stuff a try.

B Run, up until AudysseyXT32 was available, I saw many posts from members who preferred the MCACC to the other versions of Audyssey and also yamaha's YPAO. I'd too_ like to hear from others here who have had experience with different brands of older AVR's and now have one with XT32 . F1, CV as in Cerwin Vega?

For me, that wouldn't be a feature high on the priority list. You could always adjust things manually anyway, and usually you'll still have to do just that tweeking the sound to your liking. As far as the CV's go, I'm in F1NUTS camp on that, but just my opinion also. May float your boat who knows, but I would encourage you to test drive some others.

Onkyo TX-NR818 has Audyssey XT32, BUT it's a nerfed version, without Audyssey Sub EQ HT - the part that calibrates two independent subwoofers first separately, then together. I was seriously considering it because I have 2 (well, sometimes 3) subs in the theater. Now I am looking at TX-NR1010, which is way more expensive, TX-NR3009 (same), or Denon 4311.

F1, The CV's are my garage speakers. I had the Infinity Beta series for my HT and just grabbed a pair of B&W 804S for my 2 channel setup.

My personal experience coming from Audyssey Multi EQ to XT32, there is a very significant jump in quality.

XT32 is much more precise and was able to bring out more detail in soundtracks. With Multi EQ, I could only slightly hear finer details, no matter how much I tweaked things. Sound stage was ok, but always noticed channel separation. Again, no matter how much I tweaked things. With XT32 sounds pan around the room and blend seamlessly from one speaker to another. Running 7.2 system.

I bought an Onkyo 1010 and considered the 818 but wanted the SubEQ since I'm running dual subs. SubEQ did a very nice job of smoothing things out. Bass response is much smoother and hits harder than before.

For 2ch music I use direct mode and bypass Audyssey all together.

In the end I am very impressed with XT32 and say it lives up to the hype.

Audyssey is great. I think most newer units come with Audyssey or Mcacc. Like it has been stated before it will tone out your system for you and set up the speakers better/faster then you can (because it is a computer). Its not a make or break option for me when im looking at a unit.

So how fast can the XT32 travel? Mach 10? Mach 12? Mach 15?

Last time I checked my HT could only do Mach 1, tops!
