Polk LSI with Boston Accoustics surrounds

I am planning to purchase 2 LSI15 fronts, an LSI M704c center and a Marantz sr5007 receiver. I'm not going to have enough money to do the rears right away. I have an older pair of Boston Acoustics HD7 bookshelf speakers I was hoping to get away with using as the rear surrounds. I know the L/R/C have to match but not sure about the surrounds. Does anyone know if these would clash with the LSI speakers or if they would be ok temporarily? Thanks in advance.

You will be fine temporarily. Timbre matching is important for the front 3. These are the speakers that produce the most sound and dialogue in your system.
The surrounds, while important in their own right will be fine for now. As you listen more, you will eventually notice differences in quality of sound but most likely not enough to make a huge difference.

BTW, bear in mind that those LSi15s love the powah. Your AVR choice is rated at 100wpc with 2 channels driven. Due to the nature of most AVRs, once you have all 5 speakers hooked up, that is going to drop to the neighborhood of 60-80wpc depending on how good the amp section of the SR is.
Fortunately, the SR5007 does come with pre-outs and will allow you to eventually buy an ampamps and see what those LSis truly are capable of.

I'm still new at the higher end audio stuff. Since its a 7 channel amp, maybe ill look into bi-amping until I can purchase a good two channel for the front. Thanks for quick response.

Speakers will be getting the same power no matter how you configure it from the AVR to the speakers.

You'll be fine with those as surrounds. From my experience I was always happy with my surrounds and thought they were doing a good job until I finally put my LSi7's as my surrounds. At that point, I realized what I was missing.

The LSI's are a 4 ohm rated speaker, and your receiver can't power them accurately. You will risk doing damage to them without an amplifier. Forgo the surrounds at the moment and get a used amp for them. Hate to see you smoke a crossover in new speaks.

Have you considered LSiM 703's over the LSi15's? I'd think you would get better results doing this if you already have a sub in place. It will also match your center better. The LSi is voiced somewhat similarly to the LSiM, but it isn't the exact same sound.

I thought about the voice matching of the front three as well. AND I prefer my 703 to my modded 15's. That's no disrespect to the 15's just praise for the 703.

I never even caught the 4 ohm thing. I'm glad you mentioned it. Buying another amp would put it out of my price range. Maybe ill just look into getting the rti speakers. They are a step down but they are 8 ohms so no need for the external amp off the bat. And with the $ I save I can complete the set. No need for the Bostons. Thanks guys.
