Bookshelf speaker 2-ch placement?

Hi there, I just purchased my first ever Polk speakers, some Rti4's. I have them hooked up in a 2 channel setup with a vintage Audionics CC-2 (70wpc) power amp. As of right now I am very pleased with the sound quality I'm getting, but I can just tell I have them placed wrong. From your experiences, how far should I place my speakers from the wall? From the floor/ceiling? And how far from each other and from my usual listening place? Also since these speakers were born with wall-mounts on them, does that indicate that they're meant to be placed flush against a wall?

Experiment a bit. How big your room is makes a difference. Ear level placement can be a good start and lets say 8 ft apart or less if its a really small room. These speakers can be mounted to the wall but that will take your flexability away to try different positions. A couple of feet out from the wall can be good if your setup allows for this. If you have stands then that will determine your height but will allow you to move them around your usual listening place in search of the best sound. Good speaker wire is also a consideration for you to think about.
