Tablet reccomendations and thoughts on verizon/gopayment business solution

Im really considering setting up a mobile payment solution for my store using verizon/intuit-gopayment since they just teamed up and although the startup may cost a bit it will really payoff in the long run.No per transation fee and only 1.7% transaction fee.WOW.
With out going on a rant about credit card processing companies let me just say I HATE THEM ALL.Thay all lie about how much you will end up payng them each month not to mention the contract BS and hidden fees.I did about 7 grand in credit card sales last month and end up paying 600.00 bucks in fees.Imagine paying 500 to 800 in processing fees every month.Its total BS industry.The guy even told me if I did 10 grand in sales it wouldnt cost me more than 500.....4-5% total he stated just like the other 2 before him.BBB and consumer protection agency complaints from me are in the works and possible court to sue them for misleading me.......Sorry.those people bring out the worst in me.
Anyway,I would like to get a propper POS system set up using gopayment with a tablet (and a small PC since it will sync with quickbooks).....And it will save me mucho dollars and great inventory control.
Ill be contacting verizon to get the details about setting up a system and whether I need a data plan or if I should get DSL on one line and use wifi or no DSL and use mobile with data plan.Whatever is most cost effective.

Any thoughts on a decent affordable tablet 10.1 inch-- (for my customers ease of use)

A few ma and pa stores by me use the IPAD 3. They tell me the card readers that plug into them wear out fairly fast if you do alot of CC transactions.

Have you considered using The Square? Here is the link. Apparently no start up costs and only a 2.75% transaction fee. I'm considering it for my office

FWIW, the sears repair man come to our house to do recall work on our stove. He pulled out a tablet and hooked it up to some nice little printer to print off our receipt. It was a BB Playbook. Not sure if the software you are looking at is compatible. I know it's not 10" like you would like. I have a 32g PB with a blutooth mini keyboard which has replaced a laptop in our house for surfing and fun/ replying to emails. Anyway, all that to say, if Sears can, maybe it is something that could work for you.

I do very low volume, so I'm using the Square reader and have been happy with that. I considered the Intuit GoPayment reader but they wanted to run a credit check, whereas Square just sent the reader for free with no credit check required. The rates were the same, so I decided there was no need to go with Intuit.

The Intuit plan offered to Verizon customers is 12.95 a month but you do get the lower per-transaction fee. If you do a lot of volume, that might make sense.

Anyway, the offer is exclusive to Verizon Wireless customers, but I can't find in the terms and conditions what exactly they mean by that. It could mean that as long as you have a VZW cell phone, you are eligible for the plan, but it could also mean that is only available for people using a tablet purchased from Verizon with a VZW data plan. That is the first question you need to ask. Otherwise you could go buy a nice tablet from someone other than Verizon and discover that it is not eligible for the offer.

Also, these readers require a certain type of headphone jack to be on the tablet. On many of your cheaper tablets, the headphone jack is just that--a stereo output. In order to work with a reader, the jack must be a headset jack with output and a microphone input. So it's really best to stick to what Intuit says is compatible.

However if you have another device in mind, you could always have Square send you one of their readers for free and use it as a testing device. The Square app (which is also free) has a function on it where it allows you to make sure the reader is working. If a device will work with the Square reader, then it should work fine with the Intuit reader as well.

A friend of mine just went through looking at all the companies, and ended up going the PayPal route. He originally looked at intuit and they asked him for bank records and wanted him to fill out a lot of forms (this might have been due to this being used for a non-profit he runs).

He was attracted to some of the readers that said you could do inventory control with bar code scanning, but just said it was easier to go PayPal as his online sales are already using that format.

I second the compatibility list check. I took a look at the some of the lists and it looked like almost all the better known tablets work. You also don't need to buy new. I gave him my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" original version and he said there were no issues. I bought that tablet a couple years ago as a refurb sprint unit for $229. (I never hooked it up with Sprint and was just using wi-fi).

I might be able to get a motorella zoom for around 260.00.
intuit does offer a 1.7% plan if you pay 12.95 month. And since I do well over 1000 transactions per month it makes sense to go that route
