Default More speakers followed me home today

I jumped on a pair of Polk Monitor 10B's and a pair of RTA 11tl's for $180.00 today. All the speakers looked and sounded great. The RTA's even came with the original receipt and brochure. They survived the trip home and will be undergoing the epoxy treatment this weekend. I can't afford any repeats even though it was quite the learning experience. I am afraid hanging around here to much has started to effect my wallet. I can only imagine what it will be like when I start modding the 1c's this summer. I have been reading and taking notes over the most recent modding posts.

The warehouse is what my house is starting to look like. I was perusing Craigslist today and a gentleman had them listed. I will try and get some photos up tomorrow while my wife is out. She doesn't know I have them yet . I will surely catch it this time but for the price I thought it was worth it.

If you spray yourself with DEET maybe those speakers won't be "attracted" to you and follow you home? lol

Should have spent or saved the money to upgrade the 1C's. The 11's are ok but are bloted in the low end, and the 10's are great but the 1C's kill them both many times over.

You already have the better speaker and upgrading them give you even a much better speaker.. RDO-194's?

Of course they are not SDA's, but after all of the work I have done on my 11T's, they are a long long way from being bloated in the low end. In fact, I would call them just a tiny bit thin in the bottom. But they sound pretty sweet for a plain ol' ordinary non-SDA speaker.
    Just my ear's .02 worth.

Just spray yourself with DEET and setup a 2ch rig on the carport or deck and find a decent couch to sleep on. It's how I spent last summer after all my garage sale finds and the wife was so pleased to see the trunk full again.

I like the Deet idea, I wonder if it comes in extra strength so I can stay off of craigslist all together.

I wondered if you saw them., the gentlman said he had a few other interested parties.

I know these are not in the same league as my SDA 1c's but I thought for the price I could find a place for them. I am pondering the idea of modding one of these new pairs before I do my SDA's. Being new to modding I would prefer having one mod under my belt before I jump into the SDA's. They are currently working and I am always leary about screwing something up. I was always taught why mess with a good thing, and right now my SDA's are a good thing . However I do understand they get better with the mods so they will get modded its just a matter my ability and confidence.

P.S. Photos will be added tonight when I get home.

I don't see a problem with experimenting with other speakers as long as you can flip them or at least get your money back. In this case, there's a chance for a profit if/when he moves them down the road. I look forward to the opportunity of experimentation again after I get my main system where I want it. Just like the Shunyata cables I'd love to try for a low risk, I just can't justify the dough when I know where the $ needs to go right now. I'm content w/ the Pangeas until I get my source upgraded.

Experimenting/listening to different models/brands is part of the hobby.
This makes the journey fun rather than waiting for the ultimate TOTL speakers.
Also, I've found some designs are really unique and you won't know you like them until you hear them.
For example, I never had bipolar speakers before but now I have Definitive Technology BP-10 and their sound is so unique/different than what I'm used to but I like them and they seem to grow on me.

My problem currently is that I have gotten lazy about turning them and it's catching up with me. I am currently sitting on 100+ pairs of speakers not counting subs, centers and singles. Plus all the other electronic gear. It's fun to try a lot of different stuff when you can get it on the cheap. Just be careful and don't get overloaded like I have. It's now one of those hopeless feelings when I go to decide what to get out, clean, take pictures of, re-test and sell first. I lately just go back and do some more listening to what I know I already enjoy.

hehehe... a suggestion would be to catalog it first and then start looking for pricing.

Worst case if your looking to just offload stuff put the cataloged list of gear on here, let folks ask you for pics of specific items and see how quick you can sell things .....

Cats and speakers together = disaster.
Be ready for holes on grill cloths soon at minimum.

Also, that layout of 10B, 2B etc... have the look of two big eyes looking at you with wide open mouth.

I must have pretty good cats because as long as my RT600i's have been in the living room I haven't noticed a hole yet. At most I have one who likes to sit on top of my speakers. It is rather fun to see how loud I can turn the volume up before he gets down. Below are some better photos. Please ignore the clutter we are in the middle of some serious cleaning around my place. I was able to do a quick listen to them both and I have to say I am quite impressed. You can see my test setup, I have a cd player just sitting out of shot.

In my home the Monitor 10s are hard to beat at any reasonable listening level. I can't imagine any speaker "blowing them away" in this environment. With just 35 tube watts the bass is all there but not as prominent as the bass from my B$W 801s but the 801s must be played much louder and need many many more watts.

The most serious side effect to our speaker addiction isn't the speakers themselves.

It's the sudden need for a larger house.

When I gave my house requirements to my realtor she thought I was nuts. Still does.

Well I found if you get tight weave rug right next to the litter box and put a little catnip on it from time to time they will use the rug for their needs. Also my youngest will let me trim his, he just lays there, the others are declawed. They don't like it loud they go in the other room.

I've told my wife that when the time comes to upgrade the living quarters, there's a better than none chance that a completely separate area of the house will be needed for these things. I hate that my room floods the rest of the house with music. Of course, we won't be moving for another 10-20 years, so I might be deaf by then.
