JBL fun project

A few months ago I modified a pair of incredibly inexpensive JBL N28 bookshelf speakers. I replaced the cap's, (over-sized Dayton metalized), resistors (dayton), internal wiring (Ixos gamma 6007), and acousta-stuff. The results made for a powerfull speaker that seems to defeat anything I throw at it for PC use.

These simple, relatively inexpensive mods *about 30 bucks* really helped make this "ok" speaker sound pretty damned nice. The metal tweeter is incredibly smooth, non fatiguing now. The bass is incredibly controlled, much more detailed. A very capable speaker and fun project!

Hmmmm....I've got a pair of JBL 82's boxed up someplace. Wonder if a few modifacations might make for a nice bedroom rig?

Never modified a speaker before though...

And the wiring is pretty and purple too.

Very cool. I kinda like the N28 (actually even the N24 is a pretty decent little speaker). Pretty solid for the price. And I really like the new JBL E30. That is a sharp-looking little speaker...front ported and bi-wireable too. I should learn how to do mods like that. Looks fun.

Anybody with a soldering iron can do simple replacements. Its designing and building a good quality speaker thats a bit more difficult. Im in the process of gettin' my learn on.

I had no clue what results I would get from this. It just seemed like a fun thing to do, and what better speaker to experiment on? Turns out the results were stellar.

The next project is an inexpensive sub-woofer to compliment these JBL's. The parts are already on the way.

None, actually. Doing this from scratch. I have limited space, no real time on my hands to make some large fancy box (as I would need assistance with that, my woodworking skills SUCK).

and they have no cross overs

Awais,

If your speakers lack a cross-over network than there is very little you can do to modify the existing configuration. You could experiment in replacing the internal wiring.

If your really interesting in experimenting around, you could take out the driver in your Sony, see if it tells you what its ohm load rating is, measure the driver, go to partsexpress.com, and find a full range replacement. Cabinant volume and tuning may not match the replacement driver, but what the hell, its all in good time..

my full system worths only 250$ cannot spend mony on it please tell me what r the STANDING WAVES how they r experienced
my speakers give distortion on high volume

Standing waves are a phenomenon only in OUR hemisphere. You don't have to worry about it.

Distortion? Turn the Ali-Baba, Belly-Dancing tunes down a couple notches and you should be good to go.

hay my family cannot afford even a 200$ system my parents r not rich people and i have passion and craze of sound systems and polks :( there for i was wondring my sony can get to polks by cheap uppgradings
