    Default which too choose???

    Have a shot at some old JBL L100's or a pair of 4311 and 4310's all compairable prices. Anyone have some exp. with theae? Worth playing with or not? What kind of sound charictoristics? Im being tenitive as i just dont know what to expect from them. Might just be " the BUG " some opinions would be appreiated.

    They are bright, brash, and forward. I don't care for any of them - but they certainly have their fans, so YMMV.

    Practically speaking, the 4311 and L-100 are the same.

    www.lansingheritage.org is a great resource for all things JBL (and most things Altec).

    EDIT^2: Interestingly, the L-100 was designed to mimic the performance of the then-reference standard Altec 604 and/or 605 Duplex speakers for studio monitor use. I loves me some Duplexes - my "real" hifi speakers are 604E Duplexes in 9 ft^3 cabinets - but I can barely tolerate L-100s. Go figure :-)

    (oh, and in fairness, in the 1970s JBL completely eclipsed Altec a the leader in the studio monitor buiness - but that's another story!)

    i saw a set of jbl's at the curb a few years back...studio something...needed to be foamed....of course i was on a run a handful of miles from home...they were long gone when i went back with my car....probably the far-reaching power of the sda at work
