Default Jimi Hendrix Winterland box set - worth buying?

I am thinking of buying the Jimi Hendrix Winterland box set and was wondering if anyone has this and can tell me if it is worth buying. This is a 4 CD box set that recently came out. It includes a selection of live performances of the Jimi Hendrix Experience at Winterland in 1968.

It looks good but, unfortunately with all things Hendrix, one never knows since the Hendrix Estate has put out whatever they can since Jimi's death in order to make money.

Is this box set worth the $40 new price tag?
I am a Hendrix fan and the song list sure looks good.
I am curious if anyone has this and can tell me how it is.

    Thanks.

It's a decent box set. 40.00 is a little high. Check out amazon, -importcd has it for 30.00 and change. Good vendor and I buy a lot of SACD/vinyl from them.

Edit: There is a bonus 5th disc with this set not in the description. Tracks included, Killing Floor, Red House, Catfish Blues, Dear Mr. Fantasy parts 1 & 2. The concerts are incomplete, but still a pretty nice box set and the music is mastered well.

Thanks, keiko. I am glad to hear it is a good box set. And thanks for the tip about importcd. That is definitely a good price. I will definitely get it.

I ended up buying this box set and just listened to the first CD today. I definitely like it a lot and recommend it to all Hendrix fans. The sound is quite good and the music rocks. The only very minor issue is that (on first CD anyway, haven't listened to other 3 CDs yet) there is over a minute of down time between songs, with Jimi tuning his guitar. He does talk to the audience while tuning, though, so it is cool to hear him banter with the crowd but the in-between song down time does take away from the flow from one song to another. Overall, though, it is excellent. And, thanks to keiko's recommendation, I got it for only $28 from importcd.

pglbook, thanks for closing the loop on this. Interesting. I have the original 1-disc Live at Winterland album and it has some really amazing tracks, especially the instrumental "Sunshine of Your Love" cover, "Red House," and "Hey Joe." I may have to pick up this set.

I can't even imagine a band now-a-days playing two sets in a night, much less two sets a night three nights in a row, as he did at Winterland. I take that back, Dylan did two sets one night a couple years ago in Madison. But IIRC, the sets were somewhat abbreviated. Hendrix was the man, indeed.

Yes, worth checking out and it has come down on Amazon now. Listening to Jimi me made think how there hasn't been another
guitarist like him since he died.
