I picked one up a few months ago for $500 at New Egg. It's been impressive compared to the Marantz SR5003 and H/K receivers that I have owned for a few years. It's a very clean sound. Not warm, but not sterile. I run it with a pair of Norman Lab 432s that I recently finished reconing and they sound great. Although it has a ton of DSP options I usually listen in Pure Direct mode. I find the remote a bit lacking, but unlike other reviews I've read I think it's usable. My only complaint is that when browsing through internet radio or media server offerings you can't page up or down. You have to go through it one entry at a time. Overall I'm very satisfied, and I think that when I do round up a center, surrounds, and a sub I think it will only get better.
keep in mind that newegg is not an authorized dealer for elite pio. Usually Pio are preferred AVRs here. I agree with the quality of performance it delivers. I have marantz 6006, next time i get chance to upgrade, I would try our Pio. Marantz is doing great job for me.
I just picked up the Pioneer Elite SC-61 last weekend, real happy with it so far. I agree with a jm, it's a little brighter than the Yamaha it replaces, but not in a bad way. The difference I'm finding with this one is "clarity at volume". The SC-61 and the 1222k you're looking at are VERY close in specs, and I see Newegg has it for $529. That's just a great buy I think for what you'd be getting with that AVR. Like jump said though, Pioneer is very rigid with their warranty as far as prefered retailers of their stuff. At that price though, hard to turn down. If you likely have a problem, it will be out of the box issues in which case you can just return it to Newegg for a replacement.
Well I pulled the trigger and bought one of these. Should be able to get it hooked up and running this weekend. Hopefully it lives up to it's hype!
I am going to hard-wire it to my network to avoid wireless steaming issues. Thanks to all for the comments and I will share my thoughts at a later time.
Congrats! Looks like a very nice unit. Very interested to hear how it streams music via DLNA protocols if you use it that way. Looking for a network rcvr AVR myself with budget under $1000.
Congrats also. Looking forward to your thoughts on its performance...
