    Default need advice

Recently saw an add on CL for Parasound HCA 2205a. Price seems really good.

What are opinions, especially reliability issues on this particular amp.

    John Curl designed 220wpc@8ohms...
Some hums reported with Parasounds in general but definitely not something you should worry too much about.
Good price would be $800-$1100 depending on condition/box/etc.

If it is the one in SF for $700, I would jump on it.

The one in Austin is an HCA-750A not a 2205A as listed.

The one in Austin. Can't get there today, but going to look at tomorrow. Know it's pretty old, but probably worth taking a chance on, for that price. That is if I don't smell burned circuits in it.

Yeah. $162 is still a decent price even for the 750A. 75wx2 and still a JC design.

go for it. Parasounds are great amps. I have Halo A21 and absolutely love it.

Well, went and looked at the amp, and it was an HCA750A. Good call ZLTFUL. I thought ahead, and took my cousin with me, because she likes asking questions. I told her it wasn't what was advertised, and the manager, pawn shop, came over and asked me what I was talking about. So I explained it to him. I walked out with the 750A for a little under $120.

Of course this has me with a new problem. I personally think my weakest link to my current system is the sub. It's just too light for the A5's. So my original plan was to upgrade to an HSU VFT-15, which should be more than adequate. The AVR I'm currently using is a Yamaha RX-V571, which has no pre-outs.

So should I still go with the sub upgrade, or should I upgrade the AVR first. Something new to think about, even though I could probably be able to budget a Pioneer VSX series instead of the SC series with the sub this year. WHich is still another thing to think about.

Figured I'd make a final post, and call this thread complete. As I said, last Tue I went ahead and bought this amp. On Thur, I had time to open it up,and look inside. I found quit a few caps that had leaked some time ago. When I first looked, I thought it was some type of glue/insualtor material. Grabbed a little flashlight that was handy, and saw that 3 out of 4 of the 65K or 68K caps had leakage spots in various places.

There is a place in Austin that services Parasound gear, but seeing that, I just didn't think it would be worth the time and effort, so I returned it.

Damn i'd emailed that guy a month ago and told him he had the wrong amp in the picture or he was selling a different model, he didn't seem to care. Sorry you had to return it.
