Monoprice or NOT

It has worked very well so far.

I have not compared it to anything else, however.

I probably wouldn't buy anything from Monoprice again. I've had two HDMI cables fail on me and my speaker wire turned green after less than a year of use. For HDMI on the cheap, I would recommend Tartan Cable: http://tartancable.com/hdmi-cables/index.htm

I have seen so many Monoprice cables fail in the field . I don't care if they are free , I wouldn't use them in my system. I suggest you look into a Audioquest Forest HDMI cable , it will fit your needs and last a lifetime or at least as long as HDMI is around.

I have quite a few Monoprice cables, and honestly I'll probably avoid them in the future. The only ones I've had fail have been some 3' VGA cables I bought a few years back. The HDMI and DVI cables seemed to work ok. The problem is, the cables were extremely stiff and hard to route. Part of this was because I bought the premium model with the higher gauge wire, but they're making up for low quality components with thicker stuff... have had the same experience with their mounts. Sometimes cheap is good enough, but not if it makes it significantly harder to use.

I swapped out the HDMI cables on our TV to using GE cables I bought at Home Depot and they work great.

We have one run in the house that's 25' and that is a Vanco flat HDMI cable installed by the previous owners. That's working great to, and from what I've seen Vanco makes a number of products used by home theater installs.

I have replaced all of my Monoprice ICs with Audioquest.
My first hint that I should was when I went to unplug the ICs from the back of my Rotel and having the whole connector still attached to the pre. I didn't pull the wire...just the plastic/rubber cover over the plug and shielding and it broke right off.

After that, I ordered all AQ ICs and haven't had a problem since.

I've had a monoprice HDMI cable fail. I now use Blue Jean http://www.bluejeanscable.com/ with no problems!

Im a big fan of the Planet Wave HDMI and the Key Digital Python isnt bad, but the PlanetWave is awesome stuff. Its nice a flexible, the ends are solid and dont snap off + they look nice.

I'm still trying to figure out what cable failure "means"! The cabling in my HT has now been in place from 2004-2013. Some is decent quality some is NOT. No problems, no failures? And, no "noticeable" degradation!

Wires fail all the time. The company I work with uses very high end cables. HDMI cables that run for over 600 bucks. Cables that are made to tugged on and stepped on during an installation. I have seen them fail too. on Friday we had a client loose cable image to their tv. ( house has been up and running for over 1 year now.) The TV inputs were good and the cable box output was good. We switched the cable box to the spare HDMI and we had image. This type of stuff just happens. Things fail.

I worked at Radio-shack about 7 years ago when HDMI and HDTV was new and cool. We would get Monster Cable HDMI and RadioShack HDMI cables back because they didn't work or stopped working. ( at the time I think RCA & Monster Cable were making the cables for Radio-shack.) We would test them and sure enough they were dead.

My last house I ran some cheap Amazon $20 45' HDMI and it work for a year. One day I turned on my tv and switched to my Apple TV ( that device was using the cheap amazon cable) and it had lots of white snow on the picture. Nothing had changed. My TV had not moved and my equipment rack had not changed.

I would only buy the redmere HDMI cables if you using it for a really long length. Otherwise just get the cheapest one. Im in Australia so the shipping from monoprice is really expensive. Over here you can get a 1m HDMI cable delivered for $5. Ive inlcuded a link to the site

I find that mono price are good of you are not unplugging the cable. The ends have come off twice at clients houses when they want me to change their set ups.

So if your installing a projector and not ever moving it then mono piece should be ok. But if you are going to be unplugging that hdmi cable all the time then it's time to use someone else's cable.

Parts Express has an affordable cable line up also. I have a 75 foot run with active HDMI extender using CAT6 STP. Also have a pair of MP 6 foot MP 24AWG HDMI on each end. No problems. 14AWG inwall cable (100foot) fine also. No oxidation after 3+ years.

Monster on Accessories 4 less or ebay is affordable too.

So you've established that not only Mono-price can have issues. I wonder what the failure rate %'s are? Is it safe or not safe to assume the MonoPrice sells more or less than other brands. That the real question: What is the failure % to all cables sold. The bigger the boat the easier to torpedo.

No brand is immune to failure no matter what you pay.
Buy what youcan afford and be done with it.
I have never had a cable fail in my lifetime so I can't comment on mono price cables, but I've used cheap and expensive HDMI čables and never had a failure.

This! If you're always "messing" with your cables sure the ends (connectors) will loosen. HDMI. I have yet to see a failure and mine are not high end by any means. Some have been in place and working for over 5 years, not a one is over $30? Maybe I should get busy "pulling and tugging" on them. lol

I have bought a ton of stuff from Monoprice. The only two issues I've had is with the twist-on end of an optical audio cable not being parallel with the actual male end of the cable, and with a micro USB cable that will only work if it is being propped up. But Monoprice has a lifetime warranty on cables, I just haven't gotten around to submitting for an RMA.

That said, if you've got the coin, there are nicer cables to be had particularly in the fit and finish category.

I use monoprice for a lot of things and have yet to have anything go bad for me. I would recommend them to anyone as they are a great, inexpensive company. I have saved a lot of money as well too, which is always a positive for a college student haha
