    Default Josh Groban - Closer

Very few of us are born with a talent which can be appreciated by a general public. And out of those few that are, there are even fewer who have the opportunity to have themselves exposed. Josh Groban is a young man who is fortunate to have had both occur in a relatively short period of time.

And what a voice this young man has. I pail in comparison to his talents, which is a shame, having such a voice would be a handy tool in swooning women into submission.

Josh has finally released a second (third official) album entitled "Closer". My mother pre-ordered this album at the end of October, only to have it come on a wintry December 10th. It has been a long wait, and none of us were being very patient about the matter.

Right off the bat, I can say that his voice is still solid and continually maturing. I won't give away the song's and critique each track. That is your responsibility.

Expect a fairly admirable recording. The first album sounded as if the bass had a boost, and the highs had a slight edge. This album, though far from perfect, seem's much more balanced. A real treat for those of us who have invested so much of our time and money into rigs to show off music like this.

My only gripes are: He attempted to compose his version of Michael Jackson's "She's out of my life", and Linkin Park's "My December". I digress, there are some artists which simply capture a style which cannot be replicated. Any attempts will be meager in comparison. This is of no exception.

For those of you who enjoy light opera, do yourself a favor and check out this album. Odd's are, you will be adding a new cd to the collection.

The only thing that I'm not a really big fan of with his released albums are that all I've seen is combo sets (DVDandCD in the same case)

That being said, I bought both 'Closer' and 'Josh Groban In Concert' at the same time and I have to say between the two of them, the music on JGIC is MUCH better. I have listened to the Closer CD, but haven't watched the DVD that came with this one. This is about the furthest away from the type of music that I typically listen to, but JGIC is just awesome to watch. The CD of the same songs aren't the same, which is disappointing. Specifically his version of Don McLean's 'Vincent'. That song is INCREDIBLE on the DVD, and Josh's voice will get you into an almost trancelike state of amazement and serenity. The CD version of the same song has his g's hanging too hard and not nearly as smooth.

Also on JGIC is a very upbeat duet with Andrea Corr (of The Corrs) that is melodic beyond what I would have expected to hear from this type of music.

It's amazing to think that this is a kid that's 19 or 20 years old. If you were to close your eyes and listen to this music, when you did open your eyes, you would swear that they were lying to you. It's only when he actually speaks between the songs that you realize that he's a kid with a voice that's years beyond his age......

    Sean,
I'm surprised you had to wait as long as you did to get the new CD. I bought it off the shelf about 5 weeks ago.

Incredible voice to say the least!

i'm not a fan of Josh.. and i really don't like artists doing covers of other peoples songs.. that seems to be a big trend right now... and i hate it.

I'm sure Josh is a great talent.. he's got a super bright furture infront of him.. but why can't singers/artists create their own music.. or find themselves their own Bernie Taupin, just like Elton John did.

FYI, there are some really bad cover songs out there right now. one is Celion Dion doing a Cyndi Lauper song.. OMG it blows. Another on is Celion doing a Patti Label song.. that's all i hear now on the radio, is the Celion version. which sucks btw. Cover songs bite.

Whew glad I got that off my chest.. i feel much better now.
