    Default The long wall

I should've listened. I really, really should have listened when I was first setting up my 2.3 TLs. People did try to tell me. Anywho, part of the lengthy shut down was so I could rotate the room 90 degrees and put my speakers on the long wall. They're now 5.75" off the back wall, 45" off the side walls, and just over 7.25' apart. The sound stage doesn't quite have the depth it did before, but the SDA effect is much stronger and the sound stage is just an eff-ton wider even though the speakers are just over a foot farther apart. Hard to tell how much of an effect not having a signal through any of my gear for about a year had on the overall sound though, so for now, they're spiked where they are and in a couple of months when I'm sure everything has had a chance to re-burn-in and settle, I'll revisit all this. But for now, I'm generally much happier with the overall sound and sound stage.

I know exactly how you feel. Against better advice I also bastardized my set up on my 2.3s in the worst possible way. But we can look at this way; we know how poor they can sound as well as how good they can sound once they're properly set up.

Yep, I tried recently to shut mine up (2A's that is) in a smaller room but the sound sounded, well, enclosed. So, long story short after messing with a few things I decided to put them back in the biggest room we had. They are around 7.5' apart, 8" off the back wall and have close to the same footage on both sides at around 8'. Wow, it was nice to hear them "breathe" again. Even with the smaller, older monitor line in the same room it sounds great, to me anyway...

I'd even go so far as to say that proper set up had more of an influence than all of my mods put together. Problem is once I figured that out now I'm anal about proper placement. A 10' straight edge, laser pointer, level and futzing over one speaker being a half inch off from the other are all part of the game now. Totally worth every bit of hassle though when it comes time to listen.

They didn't sound bad though. It's just that they sound so much better now.
