I hung the TV on the wall then gathered the components around the low 18" TV stand and got rid of the 4 foot tall rack that made a big difference, it finally sounded that way I feel it should.

    Lightbulb 2B's are gone...

2B's are sold today so I have to settle with one SDA for now until I get better living conditions.
CRS+ is compact, small, more manageable and still has a lot of SDA to offer.
My living room is still crowded and I'll decide soon what goes where but CRS+ will stay for now at least in the house if not in living room.

Mod those babies up and you'll never want another pair of speakers.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Also putting the rig outside the box will cost me a fortune in MIT Shotgun speaker cables..
Larry, I would like to try the same one day. Some of the rigs I've seen have the amp/amps. on a low stand right between the speakers, and the rest of the gear located off to the side somewhere, still using your existing speaker wires, but incorporating longer i/c's from the pre to the amp (in most cases a less expensive option than longer speaker wires)

Mike.....has anybody really tried this, and said there is some kind of major difference???

I have a slanted rack, there are 2 metal support bars, but are also slanted. The only thing that sticks out in front of the SDA's is the bottom rack which has the power amp and this is not much at all, and thats pretty much sitting as close to the floor as you can get. The rest of the rack sits behind the front of the SDA's..is all open, and i don't even have stuff right now in 2 of the racks, I only have the CD player on top and the preamp right below. Now the room i have the 1C's in is 17X30....the speakers have never sounded as good. Now if i moved my rack out of the middle of the SDA's and tried to put it on a side wall. I think i would have to put it at least 10 feet down the side wall. If i don't..the SDA's even being a good foot and a half off the sidewall are still fireing pretty much into the rack..which i'm not sure is a good thing.

Even if i went with the IC thing, and left the power amp sitting between the SDA's..I went from a 1 and a half foot IC cable to a 15foot IC cable...which i'm not so sure is great. I'm really not sure you could tell the difference in the first place.

I think this is really getting down to audiophile nit picking here, where the cost far out ways any advantage. I think as long as you have an open rack and the rack is behind the front of the SDA's

I just don't think there is much of a problem....just my 2 cents on this.

I'd say you're in good shape in regards to the type of equip. rack you have described. I, on the other hand have got to come up with a different rack/ solution. (see attachment) my cabinet protrudes in front of the speaker plane by quite a bit.

The location of gear that I spoke of in the previous post is a common set-up for a lot of folks, SDA's or not. btw, I envy your room size.

WOW..ok Mike..yeah i have to say you have problem there. But your speakers look really close to the wall?? Mine are 1 foot off the back wall and work fine. Not that i think thats going to put them in front of your cab. Dude thats really big and massive. I will try to post a pick of my set up if i can, it's taken from my seating position which is 15 feet back. Not that does you any good..but, i really have no interest in trying to move the rack..just doesn't seem worth it.

Well a tall rack IMHO will react the same as a wall if it is out further than the front of the speakers and we all know about the 3 feet from a wall rule. As long as it is even or behind the front of the speakers and 3 feet tall or less it should be okay.

I have the 3.1's six inches from the back wall, not as close as it might appear. I know I have to come up with a different option for gear. I have an open, glass shelved rack that I've used for years, but I picked up a very heavy TT that needs a sturdy base, so I pulled out that old rack.

I've got a plan, just need to get busy!

Mike...altho that pic dose not look like a good rack per say..it was taken 15 feet away,

The rack is beyond stupid heavy..the shelf on this would easy take your TT. I can't lift this rack.

If there is nothing in the rack I can move it around the room sort of....the spikes gig in and i kind of swing it around. Beleive me...you could put your TT on this rack..no problem.

Yup...your right...if you need 21 inches for just the feet...my rack could not cut it, it's only 19" +

Your set-up certainly looks substantial. I'm looking into a few options that will fit my needs.
